International Program

Doanvy Roberts, International Program Director

What a busy and fun month our international students have had! We are grateful to the Outdoor Ed team for being so welcoming to our international students.

Our international students experienced camping in the Australian bush for the first time on the Grampians Outdoor Ed camp. They established friendships and also discovered that spiders in Australia are not too scary.

In her Food Studies class, Lina Baerwind from Germany has learned a truly important Australian skill - pie making. David Hall tested the pie and confirmed that Lina is ready for her next Australian challenge, eating a pie at the footy with friends!

In early April, our international students had a fabulous day out in Port Philip Bay, swimming with seals and dolphins.

We welcomed new international student, Nanoha Nishida from Japan to Year 10. Nanoha enjoys running, dancing and playing the piano. She is looking forward to completing her high school studies at Sandringham College.

Our international students recently joined the Year 9 Outdoor Ed camp at Meeniyan and were able to experience some of the most beautiful places in Victoria. We walked along the old rail trail between Koonwarra and Meeniyan, surfed at Waratah Bay, hiked up Mt Oberon in Wilsons Prom and did stand-up paddle boarding along Tidal River. What a special surprise it was for our international students to see two koalas in the tree at Meeniyan.

Congratulations to Kian Eslami and Shusuke Sato who have both been shortlisted for the Victorian Global Learning Awards (VGLA) 2023. The awards celebrate and reward the academic excellence and outstanding extra-curricular achievements of Victoria’s international school students. The program also recognises Victorian schools for promoting global learning and engagement and acknowledges homestay families who provide high-quality support for international students. We wish the students well and look forward to the Awards ceremony in June.
