A message from Leon

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term Two.  It has been great to see children excited and settle back into school quickly.  This is very different to 12 months ago!

We have an action-packed term coming up.  Swimming will be a big feature of the term and we are looking forward to community events such as the Loved Ones BBQ. (May 7th) and our Winter Festival is back this term on Thursday 24th June.

The 2021 School Council has now been formed and we had a handover meeting in March.  School Council members for 2021 are:

  • Lucy Paplinksa
  • Mel De Monaco
  • Matthias Lanz
  • Michelle Harmer
  • Megan Goodman
  • Amanda Stevens
  • Megan Noy
  • Jessica Duncan
  • Leon Bell

You can write to School Council anytime at:  schoolcouncil@thornburyps.vic.edu.au.

I have also asked if any parents would like to volunteer on a range of sub-committees of the school council.  These include:

  • Education and policy
  • Out of School Hours Care
  • Environment Team
  • Social Team
  • Communications Team.

Please feel free to email the school if you wish to help with these committees and we will put you in touch with the relevant people.

Winter Festival is on again.  Thursday June 24th (4-6pm) will be our re-commencing our Winter Festival. This is a special event that celebrates the shortest day of the year and the change to days becoming longer.  It is a special time for our community to come together as these opportunities was lost in 2020.

We would like some parents/carers to assist with planning and setup/pack up on the night.  If you can assist,  please contact the office.

NAPLAN testing begins on Tuesday May 11th for students in Year 3 and 5.   We encourage students to participate in the testing as this can provide evidence for further learning and in some areas, extra funding for our school.   Our school uses the NAPLAN data as a check in to see how our school is going in teaching and learning and to evaluate growth in children.  Families in years 3 and 5 will receive an information sheet about the process of NAPLAN.  If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or myself.

School Tours for 2021 have recommenced again.  If you know someone who is interested in enrolling at our school, please have them contact the office for times and dates.  We encourage families of new students to complete an enrolment for any new student.  These forms are available on our school website.  For new preps, we ask enrolment forms be submitted by August.

Take care everyone,

Leon Bell
