P.E WITH LEIGH

The foundation students are now half way through the swimming program for the term. Normally they start swimming in third or fourth term but this year the Northcote Aquatic Centre is renovating the pool area. Nonetheless the students have enjoyed the swimming and travelling on the bus together. Thank you to the parents who are helping and as always the teachers in the prep team do a great job of marshalling the kids. The students are continuing to settle into routines at school. It has been a tough year for the children who missed out on so much of their social time at kinder.

The 1/2s are about to start swimming on Monday 17th May and this will go for 6 days in the afternoons. The 1/2s have been doing hoola hooping and balls skills this term. The focus has been about getting the classes working together and building their ball skills to play games together.

The 3/4s this term have been doing a lot of running and fitness work in preparation for the athletics in third term at Coburg Athletics Track. They will also have trials for the cross country on May 7th across at Henderson Park. The students will be running 2000m metres and the first 8 students across the line have the option to go to the district cross country at Bundoora park on Thursday May the 20th.

The 5/6 have also been trailing for athletic events and training with Keith Howden who is an athletics coach at Clifton Hill. He also organises training for the basketball teams and is beginning to train and organise games with those teams. The 5/6s will continue with Inter School Sport this term. The students train in their teams on Fridays and then prepare to go to the new format of Gala Day on Friday 11th June. All the children attend and play in 5 matches across the day.
