VCAL

Tracey Seach

 Pathways and Engagement Leader

We have welcomed over 80 Year 11 and 12 students into our VCAL program for 2022 and the students have been immersed in an engaging program over Rollover including completing Barista Training, as well as First Aid. This will further improve their employability skills and allow them to serve as productive and active community members.

In November, we were thrilled to have several of our students recognised by the Bayside Glen Eira and Kingston Region in the Applied Learning Awards, 2021.

Three of our students were recognised as Nominees – Jett Rayner and Miah Eaton (Applied Learning Student of the Year - Year 12 VCAL 2021) and Lucia Caporale (VCAL Student of the Year - Year 11 VCAL 2021). These students were nominated by their teachers as fantastic ambassadors of the program and due to their commitment to their VCAL program and outstanding results in VETis in another tough remote learning year.

Eamair Stewart (Year 12 VCAL 2021) was awarded VCAL Student of the Year and excitedly returned to the school to receive her Award and Prize. We would like to extend our thanks to the ALA Awards Team, supported by Stride Education, Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia, BGKLLEN and Bentleigh Moorabbin Central Rotary Club for making these awards possible. Eamair was acknowledged for gaining an apprenticeship from her work placement which demonstrates true commitment in the workplace. She has overcome many challenges in her (remote) VCAL studies and was acknowledged by the judging panel for her resilience and her willingness to seek help from her teachers during the lockdown. Eamair is currently working full time in Retail and has committed to a new Hairdressing Apprenticeship starting in 2021. She has persevered in arranging this apprenticeship after her previously arranged employment was cancelled due to COVID impacts upon the salon. We are all very proud of you Eamair!

We have encouraged all of our VCAL students to use the summer break to further build their networks, take up opportunities to develop their employability skills and to arrange Work Placements and be ready for a year of hard work in 2022.

Ms Sarah Fortnam will be joining Parkdale Secondary College in 2022, as the incoming VCAL Coordinator and I know that the College Community will warmly welcome her to this role.
