Achievements
Four of our Year 9 students received scholarships for the 2021 Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Award.
Student | Topic | Work | Teacher |
Brian Lim | Australian Military Leaders of World War I | Mock Website | Carly Gaffney |
Leila Tebb | The impact of war on Australia’s Women | Replica World War I Anzac Supply Box from the Homefront | Carly Gaffney |
Alice Roberts | Battle of Passchendaele | Artwork | Gavin Murray |
Jack Ojaimi | Communication during World War I | Embroidered Postcard Replica | Natalie Baker |
This work was completed as part of our Year 9 History CAT in Semester 1, however, the students had to submit a formal (and very detailed) application and took place over several months during Remote Learning.
It is a credit to these four students, and their teachers, to receive these awards, in a state-wide competition for Year 9 and 10 students.
Each student is receiving a $2,500 educational scholarship and will attend a formal ceremony next year with the Minister of Veterans Affairs.
Please congratulate them on their efforts.

Debating
Congratulations to Mia Williams [year 10] on being awarded the Best Speaker in the Swannie Awards for B Grade Debating [typically Year 11 students], awarded by the Debating Association of Victoria. This is a very prestigious achievement.
Well done to Mia for all her efforts in the Debating Association of Victoria’s competition; for debating in person at Kilvington Grammar and for adapting to the online format as well. Mia attended an online ceremony on the 3rd December with her family in attendance to receive the award.
Congratulations to all of our debaters and thank you to Katie Norton, for supporting the debating students throughout the year.

Samantha Weerasekera was a former Parkdale Secondary College student.
After leaving school she attended art lessons with Heather Macallan.
Over the past few years, Samantha has written and illustrated a series of books based on events in her life. Melbourne City Council were so impressed with the books, she was awarded a grant for their publication.
In appreciation of her time at Parkdale, Samantha has donated a set of her books to our library. We thank her for her generous donation.
