Sport at Kew!

This year Kew High School has had a fantastic year in their interschool and house sport throughout all year levels.

The first sporting event was House Swimming which was held at Boroondara Sports Complex in February. In term two the House Athletics were held at Doncaster track. For both events students came dressed in blue, green, yellow and red to support their houses and get as many house points as possible. All in all there was a great turnout with many students participating and going through to district where they competed against other schools.

In term one intermediate and senior sport included Volleyball, Baseball and Cricket. Volleyball had a great turnout, winning at every age group for both boys and girls who would all advance to regionals. At regionals Kew had another amazing effort with all teams again from every division winning and advancing to State level! This was the first time ever Kew had a clean sweep of our Division and Conference finals. The finals also brought success. The intermediate boys came out State Champions, beating Eltham by two points in a very close three set game. Intermediate girls came runners up losing a close match to Maffra and senior boys and girls fought hard and ended up coming third.

Term three sports for intermediate level were Basketball, Table Tennis and Hockey. Basketball was held at Waverley Basketball Stadium and was a good day for some competitive play! The boys came out undefeated, beating last year’s national competitors, Doncaster Secondary School, in a close two point win, making them district champions and they advanced to regionals where they faced sporting schools such as Rowville and Box Hill. The boys B team did well winning two games and the girls won one game. Overall it was a fun and successful day.

Sport-Latest News

As the School Sport Victoria sport calendar winds down, three Kew High teams are about to participate in the state finals for their respective sports.

After recently travelling to Wangaratta to win their State Quarter Final, the Year 8 Boys Cricket team will now play in the State Semi and hopefully Grand final in early December. The boys have won through with some excellent, although very close, wins. They were able to win the Region Final off the last ball of the innings and then win the quarter final off the second last ball of the innings! Aston Key has been a standout in both games with his steadfast batting at the top of the order. We wish them luck for the final!

Both our year 8 Girls and Boys Volleyball teams are also heading to the School Sport Victoria State Finals after both were successful at the Region level. The boys played outstandingly in all games, comprehensively winning the final against Monbulk. The girls improved throughout the day culminating in an epic win against Monbulk in the final in a nail biting three sets. This group of girls showed fantastic resilience and composure in the face of adversity. Both teams are deserved winners and we wish them the best in the State Final.

And finally congratulations to Mikel Eduard for making the State Final for Golf. Mikel was pleased with his performance amongst a very tough field.
