Come on Down to Musicland

Kew High School is seen by many as leading the way with the success of its music program. Students performed in many venues for various events with incredibly positive audience responses in 2014. Performances included the advanced guitar ensemble performing at the Melbourne Concert Hall, the Japanese farewell dinner and several primary schools. The guitar and strings performed at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and many other ensembles and acts performed at QUP and jazz night at the QPO. All performances contained a wide spread of musical styles and talent.

Many talented groups make up Musicland, including two guitar ensembles, a junior string orchestra, a senior string orchestra, a junior, intermediate and senior concert band, the stage band, the Jazz Band, Vox Rox (vocal group) the percussion band, a keyboard ensemble and the Chinese ensemble. There are always more performances in the works which include Presentation night and at the Classical Guitar Society. Musicland has seen the growth in musical standards of all participating students throughout the year. Any student interested in learning more about the Kew music program can come down to Musicland and speak to any staff member or send an email to Ms Bartosy, the Music coordinator.

Congratulations to the Dhima Boys for their Awesome Busking Gig!

In their group Mixed Up Everything, Todd and Kevin Dhima and their younger brothers go busking in the city every now and then. They had to perform in front of a panel at Melbourne city council and the judging panel there gave them a busking permit to play on Bourke St Mall. (Usually reserved for professionals.)

A while ago, a radio station, got wind of them and tweeted to all their followers about these "new amazing bright" young rockers. It created a little buzz.

They also put them on the front page of the radio station’s website. (Click on the link below to see a clip.)
