Intermediate Round Robin
On Wednesday 17 August, the Term 3 Intermediate Round Robin competition was held. It was the last competition for the year for the Intermediate students. Beaumaris had close to 100 students across Year 9 and 10 represent the college in Basketball, Hockey, Futsal/Indoor Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee.
Below are some accounts from our coaches on the day.
Boys Hockey
Our Intermediate Boys Hockey team went undefeated today (4 from 4) to claim the Kingston division title! Our 3 "real" hockey players - Hamish L, Ashton W and Xavier C were the standouts on the day, but everyone contributed and got better as the day progressed. Special shout out to Karthick N who stepped up and did admirably as goalie! A great day had by all...until the bus failed us on the way home! Please congratulate the boys when you see them as they did a great job representing our school!
Ultimate Frisbee
Extremely proud of our two Intermediate Beaumaris Ultimate Frisbee teams. As it is a self-refereed game, the Spirit Award is calculated by each opposition coach scoring teams on Fouls, Fair-Mindedness, Positive Attitude and Self-Control, Rules, Knowledge and Respect for Opponents for every game played. Of the 8 teams and 5 schools involved, our two teams finished first and second!!
And as a massive cherry on top, our Beaumaris A side (all first time frisbarians) made it to the grand final, losing to a strong and experienced Sandringham side.
Well done team, very proud.
Basketball
Our Intermediate Boys and Girls basketball can be super proud of their effort. Both our boys teams played with great effort throughout the day. The A team finished 3rd overall. Only losing one game for the day by 1 point to the eventual winners. While the B team finished equal second losing only 2 games throughout the day. Both girls teams were fantastic on the day! A big thank you to the girls in the B team for putting their hands up to play last minute. Congratulations to the A team who made it to the final, unfortunately beaten by McKinnon.
Futsal/Indoor Soccer
Beaumaris Secondary College took two teams to the Futsal/Indoor Soccer Inter Boys and Mixed event on Wednesday 17 August. The teams acquitted themselves extremely well during the day. The Indoor Soccer team won 4 games and lost 1 for the day, placing them second on the table at the end of the day. The Indoor Soccer team had a great mix of Year 9s and 10s and was lead by Archie L who scored a lot of goals for the day and were supported in defence by Katia T who was the only girl in the entire event who took on the boys.
The Futsal team played some extremely competitive matches against Brighton, Bentleigh and McKinnon.
Coming from the stronger pool, we lost early against McKinnon in a convincing manner but pushed through the semis to play McKinnon in the final.
It was a brilliant match, 1-1 at half time, the boys put in a tremendous effort with Stefan scoring a penalty during the half and Liam G and Anakin S putting in massive defensive efforts to keep the boys in the game.
In the end McKinnon got the best of us late and won the game 3-1, but the game was in the balance up until the last couple of minutes. Stand out performers for the day come from, Alistair A, Jet C and Tommy G.
I would like to congratulate all our students for demonstrating our CORE values and presenting the school with such pride. I would like to also thank all the amazing staff who volunteered to help take these teams out. Without them sport at Beaumaris would not be so successful.
