GTAC Excursion

Unit 3 & 4 Biology

On Monday 22 August, students studying Unit 3 and 4 Biology attended the GTAC centre in Parkville. Here they were given the opportunity to undertake practical instigations that related to Unit 4, AOS 1: How to organisms respond to pathogens?

Students used their understanding of the humoral response to demonstrate how the body responds to vaccinations using 3D models. They then completed an ELIZA test to determine which cow samples had the antibody protection against tetanus.

In the second investigation they then had to identify which bacteria caused the infection of mastitis in cattle by completing a series of tests. They then got the opportunity to determine which antibiotic would work the best at combating the infection by looking at agar plate results.
