COLLEGE COUNSELLOR

Happy Holidays

We have finally come to the end of third term! This has been an unprecedented year with drought, bushfires and COVID-19 being some of the main highlights (or lowlights). Well done on making it! Some of us will be reeling from the many changes and challenges that have come our way in the last 9 months.

It is at these times that it is comforting to know that God is still in control. I am reminded also that we are very fortunate to live in Australia where we are, to some degree, sheltered from the effects of the pandemic sweeping the globe. Times like these naturally cause anxiety for many people and it is important that if you are suffering with anxiety or depression that you seek help as soon as you can. It is also worth remembering that in all circumstances there are things for which we can be thankful. Practicing gratitude for those things in life that are good is an excellent way to look after our mental health.

RUOK day Mental Health Awareness

Over the last few weeks we have run a number of mental health focussed events. The Year 12 leadership team have been very proactive in promoting and organising lots of opportunities for the college in this regard. The Year 12 mental health movie night was very popular and the talk from Marina Gabra was excellent and well received. We had a funny socks mufti day showing awareness and support for mental health in our community and of course RUOK day. Thank you to all those who showed their support for these great events.

Year 12

This week we have farewelled our Year 12s as they prepare for their final exams. Year 12: This is the last sprint - the final 100m of your marathon and you can dash past lots of your competitors if you put the effort in now. Make the most of this time and do your best. It is also a time of mixed emotions. You have finally finished your schooling! Well done. The next stage of your life is about to begin and that is very exciting and anxiety producing at the same time. Look after yourselves and each other. We look forward to seeing what you will accomplish in the years ahead.

Have a wonderful break over the next two weeks. Enjoy the lovely weather and the time with your family.
