SPORT

What a fortnight it has been on the sporting field for The Riverina Anglican College. We have successfully made three Grand Final matches and have won two CWWHSSA competitions. Congratulations to all players, coaches and officials that have been a part of these competitions. It has been so wonderful watching some of these events live streamed and to witness athleticism, sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst team members during each competition. Thanks must go out to the College teachers who have volunteered their time to coach these teams. Without you, our sports would not go ahead, so THANK YOU!!
Boys win the CWWHSSA Hockey Competition!
For the first time in the history of the College, the Open Boys Hockey team won the Combined Wagga High School Hockey competition!
The first game saw the team dominated by a number of year 8 hockey debutants who combined well and took control of the game over Wagga High (the defending champions) to win 1-0. The remaining games of the competition brought the return of the year 12s and their vast range of footy knowledge. The second game produced a 0-1 loss to Mater Dei. In the final stretch a convincing 3-0 win over Kooringal High School and 6-0 win over Kildare Catholic College saw the boys go into the grand final on goal difference. A hard fought game against Wagga Wagga High School saw a 1-0 final score in favour of The Riverina Anglican College.
Notable players of the team included Jacob Manley, Ed Wright, Andrew Woodgate, Lockie Peel, Juanu Jonck and Michael Woodgate (captain). Congratulations on a strong and history making run boys and get ready to defend the title next year.

Girls Hockey Report
With a combination of experience and enthusiasm The Riverina Anglican College 2020 Girls Hockey Team took to the field with a willingness to learn new skills and to enjoy the opportunity to play School Sport in what has been such a crazy year. Playing against more experienced opposition didn’t deter the team from doing their best and showing great improvement throughout the competition.
Game one saw the girls up against Wagga Wagga High School. Despite the terrific efforts from the whole team, we went down 6 - 0. Game two had the girls up against Mater Dei Catholic College and unfortunately lost again 3 - 1. All players really started to gell as a team and took on the opposition with lots of determination.
In game three the girls found themselves up against Kooringal High School. After watching the boys dominate in the game before, the girls were inspired to play harder than they had the entire competition. Although the game ended in Kooringal’s favour, the effort all the girls showed was outstanding.
In the last game of the competition, the team faced the experienced team from Kildare Catholic College. A close game with many opportunities for both teams, Kildare managed to come away with the win. Throughout the competition notable players in the team were Charlotte Wickson (captain), Rose Wickson and Jessie Halden, while Nell Malmo and Katie Anderson bravely played goalkeeper.
The team would like to thank our Coach, Mrs Woodgate.

Carroll Cup Grand Final - Winners!!
Congratulations to the Carroll Cup team who defeated Mater Dei Catholic College in the final on Wednesday afternoon. The win was the College’s second Carroll Cup victory with the final score being 9.4 – 58 to 2.4 – 16.
The team set the victory up in the first quarter with five unanswered goals. Mater Dei lifted in the second quarter and our boys were able to respond in the second half to come away with a pleasing and well deserved victory.
The team’s effort and attitude played a key role in the victory and every player contributed to the win. The on-ball brigade of Gerard Okerenyang, Sam McCready, Billy Glanvill, Matt Hamblin, Ethan Weidemann and Sam McNaughton lead the way providing the forwards with plenty of opportunities.
The backline which has been rock solid all series was again well led by Royce Hunter, Callum Burns and Bayden Leary. The forward line functioned well and capitalised on the midfielders work with Jacob Manley and Sam Stening providing a good contest. Joe Perryman and Ben Lewington were dangerous at ground level.
Congratulations to Brayden Glyde who was named the Mark Gooden Medallist for best on ground. Brayden played a great game as a half forward and was involved in several of our goals and his work rate and impact around the football were excellent.
A big thanks to all supports both outside the fence and online.
Match details are below:
GOALS: Jacob Manley 2, Brayden Glyde, Matt Hamblin, Sam Stening, Ethan Weidemann, Sam McCready, Joe Perryman, George Carn
