Tournament of Minds

After seven weeks of hard work, giving up lunchtimes and weekends, our three teams were able to submit creative responses to this year’s Tournament of Minds challenge. A special mention needs to go to Karin Rezkalla, Teddy Leah and Lachlan Wilkinson who spent additional hours editing their team’s videos. Thank you, also, to Miss Siebert and

As this was such as different year, all the senior entries for the Riverina were combined into one category so only two awards were available. Both of these awards were given to The Riverina Anglican College teams! We would like to congratulate all of our ToM students for their creativity, teamwork, dedication and success.

Write a Book in a Day

Last Sunday, 20 enthusiastic writers arrived at the Dr Ian Grant Library at 8am to have the parameters of their story to be revealed. The students divided into three teams – TRAC Knowledge, TRAC Wisdom and TRAC Faith. Each of the teams had different settings, issues and characters around which to craft their stories.

Taking up their areas in the library, each with a buffet of snacks, the teams set to work on their stories. The brainstorming was amazing and very quickly the stories began to emerge. The chapters took form and the illustrators worked their magic with paintbrushes and pencils to bring the stories to life.

The hours of writing and editing were punctuated with games of handball, dancing and meals. Finally, after more than 11 hours of working together, the stories were complete and uploaded to the competition. Congratulations to TRAC Faith for writing “Sweat Jeans, Magpie and Chaos”, TRAC Wisdom for writing “This is Where You Left Me” and TRAC Knowledge for writing “A Stroke of Enchantment”. These books will be distributed to teenagers in hospitals across Australia being treated for cancer.

The students were supported across the day by Mrs Hawke, Miss Kelly, Mr Heffer, Miss Tyson and myself. Thank you also to all the people who sponsored the teams and raised more than $1000 for Children’s Cancer Research.
