HSC Major Works

Mock Trial Success

Congratulations to the College Mock Trial team, for the first time in the College’s history they are progressing to the Quarter Finals of the competition.

Additionally to this amazing news, our team was ranked first in the competition, out of a total of 90 other competing schools across NSW.

The team will compete against Eden Marine High School in Week 1 of Term 4.

Due to COVID, the trial will be held remotely.

We wish the team the best of luck!

Cattle Show Team Online Junior Judging Success

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had only travelled to three out of a potential 16 cattle and sheep shows that the cattle and sheep teams would have normally attended before they were all progressively cancelled.  Fortunately, our cattle team was lucky enough to be involved in an online Junior Judging Competition organised by Emma Finemore from St Pauls College.

St Pauls College created this event through Microsoft teams. This platform allowed us to freely communicate with Emma who collaborated with Le Martres Limousin, a well known cattle stud in our local area. The stud collected 4 individual videos of their bulls and 4 videos of their heifers, for the students to view, assess and create a video of their judging oral presentation.

There were two age groups; over 15 and under 15. In the under 15 class we had nine participants which included Angus Lee, Caitlyn Harvey, Charlotte Dendy, Ella Hughes, Everlyn-Kate Wilson, Georgia Thompson, Indianna Cornius-Randall, Indigo Dawson and Sophie Stening. Then in the over 15’s class, we had three students Jacob Kerrisk, Caitlin Rodham and Katie Anderson. The over 15’s judged the bulls and the under 15 students judged the heifers.

After the students had picked their own placements of the cattle, and justification, it was time to record their videos to submit to the judge’s Glen Trout and Graeme Hopf. Caitlin Rodham, who organised the College entries, recorded the videos at school during the Friday Agriculture Co Curricular program. Students dressed in their show clothes and presented their opinions and ideas about each animal and justified the order in which they were placed.

Recording themselves instead of talking in front of the microphone was something we were not used to so the students had to adjust to the new way of presenting. Everyone took the change in their stride and delivered high-quality speeches.

After submitting the recordings to the judges we finally got the results back. Overall our students did our school proud as they were competing with schools from all over NSW and Victoria, not just in the Riverina. The Riverina Anglican College students should be extremely proud of themselves and the effort that they put into planning their presentations. We were fortunate enough to place in each class. Ella Hughes placed second in the under 15’s class, Sophie Stening placed 8th in the under 15’s class and Caitlin Rodham placed 4th in the over 15’s class.

Not only were we extremely successful in the placings but we were awarded Champion School overall which is a great achievement. This event was very worthwhile because we all learned a little more about judging in this event.   Our team is now ready for future events whether that’s still competing online or finally being able to travel to shows again.

Special thanks to Emma Finemore for organising and running this event, the two judges Glen Trout and Grame Hopf for their amazing judgments on the day, Le Martres Limousin for supplying the animals for us to judge and Mr Dawson for giving us the opportunity to compete in this event.

Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Education

On Friday 18th September Year 9 and Year 10 OED completed their Practice Journey

for their Bronze or Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. Students completed a number of

activities around first aid, camp catering, and kayaking with a particular focus on the subject

ethos; perseverance, determination, teamwork, physical effort and problem solving.

A special commendation to Will McCready, Paddy Malmo, Layla Wilson, Riley Caton and

Adam Morrow for winning the cooking competition, whipping up delicious and nutritious Fajitas. All students showed commitment toward the program, demonstrated leadership and

were willing to step outside their comfort zones. The students will now spend their lessons preparing for their qualifying trips which will take place early Term 4.

Well done to everyone on their efforts!

Year 12 - HSC Procedures

Year 12, please see information from NESA regarding procedures for the HSC Examinations under COVID- 19 conditions, as well as support materials for yourself and your parents around mental and physical wellbeing.

Attention Parents/Guardians and students of Year 12

With the HSC examinations shortly upon us, and the current care being taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  NESA have instigated some very strict rules to ensure the safety of all students, presiding officers and examination supervisors.

Please take the time to read and ensure students adhere to the following:

  • Students will need to arrive 20 minutes before the examination so supervisors can temperature test students, confirm they have not been asked to self isolate by NSW Health, and do not have any flu- like symptoms and sanitize their hands.
  • Students should not attend the examination if they have flu-like symptoms ( fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell), are awaiting a COVID test result, have been directed to self isolate by NSW Health or have tested positive to COVID 19.
  • If students have a known illness that has similar symptoms to the flu e.g. hay fever, they require a  medical certificate from their doctor which should be  provided to the school. They are also encouraged to ensure they are up to date with their medication to minimise their symptoms.
  • Students displaying flu-like symptoms may be asked to leave the examination and asked to be tested for COVID-19. They will only be able to return to the examination centre once a negative test result has been received.

If you have any concerns, please contact Ms Helen Foster by phoning the college 69331811 (ext 163), or by e-mailing  helen.foster@trac.nsw.edu.au
