Staying well in winter
Good hand hygiene and washing technique is key to keeping germs away and stopping them from being passed on. We highly recommend going over with your family what good hand washing looks like and remind them to wash hands or use hand sanitiser after coughing, sneezing and before and after eating and going to the toilet.
Coughing and sneezing etiquette is also another way of keeping germs away.
Coughing into your elbow and not your hands, if you haven't got a tissue is one of the most effective ways of stopping the spread of germs.
As we head into winter we are seeing a lot of coughs, colds, COVID and Influenza A and B at school in both primary and high school. Local chemists now sell testing kits for all of these viruses. We encourage you to test if you suspect any of the above.
Finally, one of the most important things to staying well is a balance diet, and foods that are great immune system boosters. For students that aren't keen on fruits and vegetables look at what supplements are available at the local chemist that can help support the immune system. This will help prepare their immune system for being strong enough to fight off any coughs/ colds etc.
For parents of students with asthma, please reach out to sick bay if they have a flare up or exacerbation and need to be monitored at school. Those that are on preventers, it's a good time to remind students to take them regularly and replace any empty inhalers. Stay well and germ free for winter 2025 Insha Allah.
