Y2: Kitchen
Chemistry incursion
Our Year 2 students had a remarkable experience where they had the opportunity to take on the role of mini scientists during our Kitchen Chemistry incursion.
The students experimented with food-related chemicals which challenged them to think about everyday food in a whole new way! Students observed the respiration of yeast, evidenced by the production and capture of carbon dioxide. They used an indicator to identify an acid and a base and observed the process of neutralisation by mixing an acid and base together.
Students used food colouring to observe the effect of disrupting the surface tension of milk. They even got to make and take home a bag of sweet, tongue tingling sherbet and took note of the ‘fizzy’ sensation produced by the chemical reaction! The incursion was fun and interactive and the Year 2 students loved exploring science through hands on experiments.
