Secondary: Debating & Public Speaking

Week 4 of Term 2 was a showcase of talent, resilience, and leadership for ICOM’s Debating and Public Speaking team.
On Tuesday, 6th May, students Maliha Tasneem, Rameen Zehra, and Rida Adeel Qureshi represented the college at the Wynspeak Public Speaking Competition, an esteemed event hosted at Good News Lutheran College. The students delivered engaging prepared speeches and tackled impromptu speeches with only four minutes to prepare, impressing the audience and judges alike with their poise and conviction.
Two days later, on Thursday, 8th May, our debaters participated in Round 3 of the DAV Schools Competition at Williamstown High School. This round featured secret topics, which required teams to formulate their arguments in just one hour. Our Year 9 teams displayed outstanding adaptability and collaboration, achieving three wins across the board - a testament to their growing skills and confidence.
Congratulations to all our student participants and thank you to the staff and families supporting these programs. We look forward to even more success as the season continues!
