Alumni

September 2022

“When I grow up, I want to be…”

Lots of Alumni we speak to weren’t always sure what they wanted to be, while they were at school.

Some had goals and visions for their career, but a lot found they sort of liked something, and adapted and changed plans along the way, to get where they are now.

Whether it be an apprenticeship, university after school or as a mature age student, or working your way up from your first role, we find Alumni that have been hardworking, and persistent, but also flexible in their plans, have achieved some amazing things, and we know that will be you too!

Alumni Events Term 3:

IMPACT Photography workshop

Sharlene Vale runs a photography business and was kind enough to give her time to run some photography workshops for our Arts IMPACT students. Finding alumni with skills and talents that we can bring into the school and share with the students is always exciting and we thank Sharlene for sharing her creative and technical skills.

STEAM expo

The Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts and Maths Expo was held at school at the end of August, with the theme of Glass, and we very warmly welcomed back Norlane High Alum Yolanda Esteban and her colleague John, with an exhibit on sustainable housing materials.

Students and their parents took part in the demonstration, testing the temperature in a model house with glass or other materials. We can’t wait to see if our students follow Yolanda’s footsteps into Architecture and Design.

Wexford Alumni Panel

'Trains & Cranes' was the theme of our Alumni guest visit to our Wexford campus.

Steph Whale (Norlane High), a V/Line Train Controller, and Joshua Barling (Northern Bay College), an Electrician and Crane Technician, came back to our Wexford Campus, the site of their old primary school.  Steph is responsible for controlling the V/Line Bendigo line, a role which requires critical thinking, and excellent communication skills. Joshua is responsible for maintaining cranes on a variety of projects, to make sure they are maintained safely for the delivery of a project. Both emphasised the need for Maths, English and good communication, in their roles.A big thank you to Josh and Steph for taking time to come back, give back, and share insight into their persistence and hard work in their career journey.
