NetballExtended School Day

Our term 3 program finished with lots of smiling faces and students who were so much more skilled and knowledgeable about many different areas after their series of sessions across the wide subject range on offer. Our Term 4 program will come out on the first Monday back with sign up happening on Thursday 7 October.

It will be terrific to have our regulars back and perhaps some new or returning faces. I look forward to meeting you all next term

Performing Arts

This term the Year 7/8 students have been learning the guitar with Mr Stella for Performing Arts. Mr Stella takes our Year 9 Music program and runs our College Rock Band, therefore working with him this year is a great opportunity and insight into Year 9. It was great to see so many students engaged in learning a new instrument.

IMPACT

Our IMPACT classes have experienced some amazing opportunities in the last few weeks as well as connecting with our community, in the ARTS.

Occasionally schools are offered a few tickets for productions that run in Melbourne while at other times Innovative Arts Programs like IMPACT at Northern Bay can help in the negotiation of price reductions. There are other partnerships such as the Northern Bay Challenge with extensive contacts that can persuade production Companies to support students who have limited access to arts productions.

This months  has seen two kinds of access for our students. Year 9/10's in IMPACT had the magical opportunity to attend Hamilton The Musical at Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne. Many of these students had seen this show on Streaming services therefore, to see it live was a dream come true. A major focus of this Pillar of Excellence in the College is to take students who have an interest in the arts - say - water colour paints and provide insight across all of the Arts to give as wide a scope of career options available. From the set of Hamilton we can see a number of skills that are required that students may never have considered.

We also had a group of students who attended the Victorian Opera's production of The Wizard Of Oz. Once again an amazing opportunity thanks to Ken Harrison the chairman of the Northern Bay Challenge.  This production was in Italian and above the screen was a translation. It was performed at the Palais Theatre and really took many of the group out of familiar territory. Of course the story was well known and made things easier but I saw only a little because I was fascinated by the faces of our audience members - there was real joy  and wonder throughout much of the performance.

A major point of interest was the orchestra sitting centre stage and a very different idea to other shows they may go and see. The Students and Mr Diamond gave up their evening to go in the school bus (The Students think he is a great Driver!)

YEAR 7/8 IMPACT - ASCEND

Our Year 7/8 students have been working on IMPACT and SEED Murals for our buildings at Peacock campus. The students have been working hard to embrace both pillars of excellence in this signage, so do not forget to look out for it from the road at Peacock campus early next term

Year 9 IMPACT

Our Year 9 students have just completed a unit of work on Puppetry. Throughout this unit, students learnt how to make a variety of puppets and how to bring them alive to an audience. The next ask was to create and perform a puppet show. Finding an audience was easy because next door at Goldsworthy  is the wonderful Early Learning Centre and our youngest students had a wonderful time. However, I think that maybe some of the Staff and definitely the Year 9 IMPACT group probably had an even better time! Another of the team  also record the show.

State School Spectacular 2022

Once again our choir and dancers were amazing. Their stamina, cheerfulness, performances and behaviour were outstanding. Thank you all and a special appreciation from all our team  to our parents

SEED NEWS

What a year so far SEED has had. Not only have we had multiple flag wins, but the participation in sports such as Football, Basketball, Soccer, Badminton and Volleyball in SEED have led to the student's participating in these sports of a Recess and Lunchtime on a daily basis. This has really created the energy in Northern Bay College. It is great to see the students and staff members talking about their major topics/interests while utilising our SEED Podcast equipment. Mr Lowery and I would like to thank you for displaying respect towards peers, teachers and coaches during all SEED sessions.

Volleyball Success

We had two teams win the Geelong Competition, both the Year 7/8 boys Volleyball team and the Year 7 girls Volleyball teams will compete in Western Metro Competitions next Term. Well done and Congratulations to the two teams

And then there were 4!

If you don't understand AFL and how you can develop into a Grand Finalist, Monique gives you an insight

This may be a chance to use the language translator which is available in these newsletter with reasonable accuracy

AFL stands for Australian Football league and is available to all ages to play. Starting with Auskick then working your way through to a football club where you can play juniors, and once you get older you move on to Reserves and then go to seniors. If you're lucky you might get drafted to an AFL team because of your talent. Football is an enjoyable sport because you get to collaborate with your team and get to make new friends. By collaborating with your team you get to know how each other play and tell them what they need to improve on and with games you all work together to play against another team. At the end of each season there are finals and a grand final and you fight to win the premiership. The top 8 teams go into finals and whoever wins the final goes to the preliminary final, which will eliminate the teams that lose. After then it’ll come down to 2 teams for grand final. The team that wins the Flag will get to take it back to there club and have it there in history- By Monique Tabor 9F
