Douglas Shield Cricket - Round 3 report

On Wednesday 10th February, the College played a state quarter final match against William Clarke College from Kellyville, Sydney. The game was played in great spirit and the umpires commented on the high level of skill and sportsmanship that was displayed by both teams.

William Clarke College won the toss and elected to bat on a very even wicket that did not change for the whole match. The bowling from TRAC was very tight early against very good batting. Captain Joe Perryman set a trap for their opening batsman and with a very well placed bouncer was able to dismiss one of their best batsmen before he could do too much damage. The bowlers all did a commendable job with best figure being Joe Perryman (3 for 27) Bill Glanvill (2 for 26) Luke Fellows ( 1 for 31) and Luke Naumann (1 for 12) with WCC finishing their innings after a shortened 40 over game, at 7 for 156. It was particularly good to see Luke Naumann perform so economically in his first bowl for the Open’s team, with his first 3 overs being maidens.

The chase looked in trouble early with the college 4 for 29 in reply after 13 overs but when Co-captains Joe Perryman and Bill Glanvill came to the crease, they settled into a very good partnership that showed great maturity from both boys. They put on 120 runs for the 5th wicket partnership before Joe was eventually dismissed for 65. Bill continued on with Sam Stening to bring the game home with 2 overs to spare. This was a great game of cricket which showed the boys that the game is never over and they fought to the end, a great effort! The College will now go on to play the winner of Kinross Wolaroi School, Orange and Inaburra School, Bangor in the state semi-final in the coming weeks.
