The College Wordmasters Club

Inviting all students to become a Wordmaster!

The Wordmasters Club is a place where students are challenged to become the very best communicators they can be, whether that is speaking, debating or writing.

The Wordmasters Pubic Speaking and Debating Club will meet every Wednesday lunch in the new demountable Room 8 (DM8). Students will play word games, deliver impromptu speeches, participate in random debates – and all while exploring the BIG questions about life. Having fun with words and speech is the perfect way to prepare for competitions (although participation in competitions is not compulsory) and this year we will be competing in local public speaking competitions as well as the HICES Debating Competition, and (Covid permitting) the UN Youth NSW Evatt Competition. There will be opportunities to compete in the House Debating Competition and there may also be opportunities to debate against local schools.

For those students who prefer writing more than speaking, this year Miss Hislop will be guiding the Wordmasters Writing Club where students can extend their writing skills and dabble with all forms of creative writing from short stories to poetry or lyrics, or perhaps even non-fiction. Whatever students may like to write – the Wordmasters Writing Club is the place to be. Student work may be chosen to be published in the College Newsletter or TRAC Record, or the local paper, and there will also be the opportunity to compete in official writing competitions. This is the club to join for students who just want to play with language and improve their writing skills or for those who may dream of becoming a professional, published writer or journalist. The Wordmasters Writing Club will meet every second Friday lunch of Week B –  in DM8.

Whether public speaking, debating or writing, students will be challenged to become an articulate and confident communicator – a skill that they will carry with them into their future career and - the rest of their life.

Be a Wordmaster today!

This has been an English Faculty announcement.

For further information, please see Mrs Hawke, Mr Studdert or Miss Hislop.

Thank you

This week's Principal's Assembly began with Chapel. College Chaplain, Mr Tyndall proclaimed to staff and students that our existence matters to God, even if we ignore Him, His love is eternal.

Mr Howard spoke about safety around cars and buses at the end of the school day. Students were reminded they are NOT to access parent vehicles on Farrer Road, they must wait until the cars have pulled into the designated drop/pick up zone.

Karin (on behalf of the Amnesty International student group) presented Head of Secondary School, Mr Ingold with a certificate of appreciation from 'Act for Peace' for raising $7 496 for the 2020 Ration Challenge. Congratulations to all participants for this wonderful achievement.

'House Wars' followed the Assembly with Mrs Liakatos and Year 12 running an activity as a warm-up to the Swimming Carnival on Monday. Mrs Jenkins and Mrs Passlow set the mood with some very distinctive costumes. Pool noodles were passed down the line of students from each House.
