PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

What an outstanding two weeks it has been at The Riverina Anglican College! This time of year, sees me interviewing new students for entry into Year 7 in 2022. It is amazing how fast this comes around each year and just how much I enjoy meeting these excited, nervous and eager young men and women. Discussions with the families inevitably lead to culture, word of mouth referrals from the local community and our cocurricular and representative sport opportunities. It is a wonderful chance for me to meet with our incoming students (the Class of 2027!!!) and chat about their wonderful futures at our college.

I was highly impressed by the calibre of the Junior School leadership speeches this week. Students spoke of service, learning, cooperation and of course – leadership. Mrs Green, Mr King and I enjoyed the speeches and the chance to discuss the exceptional candidates. I met personally with all of the candidates as well. This was a real treat for me and I was so impressed with their desire to serve, their candour and their friendship and support for each other.

The future developments for the College have been high on my list of discussions and meetings this fortnight as I engage with our partners to plan the next phase of Secondary School development and Stage 2 and Stage 3 of the Junior School precinct. Considered and meticulous planning for the future is at the forefront of these discussions and I look forward to discussing them with you soon.

It has been wonderful to see the Kindy, Year 1 and Year 2 students fully ensconced in the Junior School building over the past couple of weeks. The learning spaces are magnificent and Mrs Chacon and the Junior School Team are rightly proud of these facilities. Stage 2 of the Junior School will be completed in September 2021 and this will see the students move from Building 1 in the Secondary School into this new building. Building 1 has been temporarily converted into the Stage 2 and Stage 3 precinct with all of the modern furniture and technology that will be installed in Stage 2. Witnessing the Junior School access the Dr Grant Library has been exciting. I was teaching my Senior Global Politics class in there recently and we were all caught up in the storytelling prowess of Mrs Heffer (Year 4).

The Swimming Carnival will be held next week and I look forward to seeing how Willsher and Blackwell fare in this, their first year. Best of luck to everyone and thank you to all of our wonderful staff for the organisation and coordination of this annual event.
