HEAD OF SWANS

We have a very busy year ahead of us supporting and providing opportunities for students with extra needs.

I am very excited to welcome our new Teachers’ Aide, Ms Nanette Medau, to our team. Ms Medau has spent the last few weeks getting to know our students and establishing routines in working with students (and their teachers) to assist them in their learning. Mrs Kym Kjaer and Ms Martha Anya will also be assisting in the classroom.

Chess

It has been exciting to see so many students come to Chess Club each Thursday lunchtime. Students of varying abilities have been playing together, enjoying the opportunity to learn and/or give tips.

The Interhouse Chess Competition will begin next Thursday, which will be a round robin event culminating in a round of finals. We look forward to watching the skills and strategies develop over the weeks of competition.

da Vinci Decathlon

The da Vinci Decathlon is returning to TRAC after sadly being cancelled last year. Named after one of the world’s greatest thinkers and inventors, Leonardo da Vinci (1452 – 1519), the competition has particular emphasis on higher order thinking skills, problem solving and creativity. It is a multi-discipline event where students must work cooperatively in a team to apply their skills and understanding in a wide range of extended problems. The ten disciplines involved are: code breaking, engineering, ideation, art and poetry, legacy, science, maths, English, cartography and creative producers (drama).

TRAC will be entering a team in each of Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10. Students wishing to nominate for a place the team for their year group must complete a nomination form, following one of these links:

Year 7 & 8

Year 9 & 10

Nominations close on Friday 5 March.

Each team will be comprised of 8 students. Once teams have been selected, they will train for two lunchtimes a week for the last 4 weeks of Term One. The competition will be at the College in the first week of Term Two.
