Welcome back to Term 3. This is one of the busiest periods of the year for Careers, particularly for our Year 11 and Year 12 students as pathway decisions, university applications and post-school planning continue.

We encourage students and families to take advantage of the many opportunities available over the coming weeks and to contact the Careers Team if they would like individual support or advice.

Year 10 – Exploring Careers with SEEK

This week, Year 10 students completed a MyPath lesson using SEEK, Australia's largest employment website.

Students learnt how to:

• Create a SEEK account.
• Search for careers and employment opportunities.
• Investigate the qualifications and skills employers are looking for.
• Explore real job advertisements across a wide range of industries.
• Identify the employability skills employers value.

By exploring real job advertisements, students gained a better understanding of the qualifications, experience and personal qualities employers are looking for, helping them make more informed subject and career decisions.

Year 11 – Planning for Year 12

This week's MyPath lesson focused on preparing students for the opportunities available in Year 12.

Students received information about:

• University Enabling Programs available through Mazenod in 2027.
• Alternative pathways into university.
• Early Offer programs.
• University application timelines.

Mrs Johnson also presented information about the VET courses available in 2027, helping students explore vocational education opportunities for next year.

Applications for the 2027 University Enabling Programs close Monday.

Students wishing to apply should ensure their application is submitted before the deadline.

Year 12 – University Planning

Year 12 is now entering one of the busiest periods of the year as university applications and post-school planning continue.

Students should now be:

• Completing their TISC application and course preferences.
• Researching university courses.
• Applying for Early Offers where appropriate.
• Preparing for interviews and any additional admission requirements.
• Continuing individual pathway planning with the Careers Team.

Reminder – Complete Your TISC Preferences

Students intending to apply for Early Offers are reminded that they should complete their TISC application and include the relevant university course preferences as soon as possible.

Although Early Offers are made directly by the universities, students must still have a valid TISC application with eligible course preferences listed if they wish to accept an offer and enrol in many undergraduate courses.

Remember, TISC preferences can be updated as often as required before the closing dates, so students are encouraged to submit their application early and continue refining their preferences as they research courses and discuss their options with the Careers Team.

University Consultations – Bookings Close Monday

Bookings for the one-on-one university consultations at Mazenod on Friday 7 August close on Monday.

Representatives from all five Western Australian universities will be available to discuss:

• Course options
• Entry requirements
• Early Offers
• Scholarships
• Alternative entry pathways
• University life

Students are encouraged to book an appointment before places fill.

University & Pathway Opportunities

Notre Dame Early Offers

Applications remain open for Notre Dame University's Early Offer Program.

Students are encouraged to include:

• School reports
• Recommendation letters
• Community service
• Sporting achievements
• Music and arts achievements
• Employment history
• Leadership roles and awards

These experiences may strengthen an application through Notre Dame's adjustment factor program, recognising students for their achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

Murdoch University – Law Start

Students interested in studying Law should explore Law Start, Murdoch University's alternative admission pathway.

Law Start recognises students with strong communication, critical thinking and essay writing skills who may not meet the traditional ATAR entry requirements for a law degree.

ECU Apple Foundation Program

Students interested in technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, app development or creative problem solving should explore ECU's Apple Foundation Program.

Delivered in partnership with Apple at ECU's new City Campus, this free three-week intensive program introduces participants to:

• App design
• Swift programming
• Design thinking
• User experience (UX)
• Creative problem solving
• Leadership and teamwork

No previous coding experience is required, and all Apple devices are supplied throughout the program. The program is open to students aged 16 years and over, including current high school students. Students can register their interest by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the ECU website.

University Scholarships

Many students believe scholarships are awarded only to those with the highest ATARs.

In reality, universities offer scholarships recognising a wide variety of achievements and circumstances.

Scholarships may consider:

• Academic achievement
• Leadership
• Community service
• Sporting excellence
• Music and performing arts
• Financial hardship
• Rural and regional backgrounds
• Specific courses of study

During the next Year 12 MyPath lesson, students will receive detailed information about:

• University scholarship opportunities
• Scholarships available specifically to Mazenod College students
• Commonwealth Teaching Scholarships
• AVCAT Scholarships
• How to prepare competitive scholarship applications

Students should begin collecting certificates, awards, references, volunteering records, employment history and evidence of leadership that may strengthen future scholarship applications.

AVCAT Tertiary Scholarships 2027

Applications open on 18 August and close on 31 October 2026.

AVCAT scholarships provide $4,000–$6,000 per year (for up to three years) to eligible students who are the child, stepchild, foster child or grandchild of an Australian ex-serving veteran.

Scholarships are available for students commencing full-time study at university, TAFE or another Registered Training Organisation in 2027.
