A Special Visit from Hon Klasey Hirst

This week the College welcomed a visit from Hon Klasey Hirst, Member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia. The purpose of the visit was to meet with members of the College community and to learn more about Mazenod, its students, staff, current priorities and future goals.
Klasey was met by Principal Sabrina Hughes and VET/Workplace Learning Co-ordinator, Lauren Johnson and guided to the Yarning Circle where Klasey chatted with staff and First Nations students about the purpose, meaning and use. Adjacent to the Yarning Circle, Klasey was given an overview of The Garden Project - Sustainability/Wellbeing Space – Phase Two. The Garden has been partially funded through The Parents Association and a WasteSorted SmartyGrant. Klasey was also shown the Memorial Plack close to the College Chapel and taken to The Kitchen where the ASDAN and Good Works Kitchen Program students were cooking a delicious afternoon tea for the special guests.
Earlier this year, thanks to funding from the State Government, we were able to purchase a commercial-grade industrial oven and refrigerator. These additions have provided ASDAN students and participants in the Good Work Kitchen Program with valuable opportunities to develop their culinary skills through hands-on learning, cooking and sharing meals with others.
Combined with the ongoing support of the Mazenod College Parents Association, these resources enable us to deliver meaningful, practical learning experiences that strengthen students' connection to the curriculum while building confidence, independence and essential life skills.
