SENIOR SCHOOL | Update

Dear Years 11 and 12 Parents/Carers and Students

Welcome back for Term 3! It was great to welcome students back last week through our Welcome Back assemblies, providing an opportunity to reconnect and reset expectations for a positive and purposeful start to the term. As part of this, our Year 12 students also participated in a valuable session with Sonya Karras from ‘A Whole New World’. Drawing on her extensive experience, Sonya delivered an engaging and highly relevant presentation focused on staying safe while socialising. The session covered a range of important topics including alcohol awareness, decision-making, risk-taking behaviour, and looking after themselves and others in social settings. Sonya’s ability to combine practical strategies with real-world insights ensured students remained engaged while gaining important knowledge that will support them beyond school. We truly believe this was an invaluable experience for our students as they continue to navigate this stage of their lives.

A major highlight early in the term was the Year 12 Formal. It was a brilliant evening and a wonderful opportunity for our students to come together and celebrate an important milestone in their final year. The positive interactions between students and staff, and the genuine sense of connection throughout the night, was amazing. We were really proud of how our Year 12 students conducted themselves on the night and the way in which they embraced the positivity of the event.

A huge thank you to our Senior Team, led by Ms Brittany Harvey and our Year 12 coordinators Ms Victoria Stewart and Mr Pat Mooney for the countless hours spent preparing for the night. These events don’t happen without the dedication of staff like Britt, Vic and Pat and their willingness to go above and beyond to create such wonderful memories for our students. I would also like to sincerely thank all staff who attended and supported the evening. Events of this scale rely on a collective effort, and the willingness of staff to give their time, support behind the scenes and ensure everything ran smoothly does not go unnoticed.

This week sees the opening of subject selection for our current Year 11 students as they begin planning their Year 12 programs for 2027. This is a significant step in each student’s pathway, and we encourage families to engage in this process, have conversations at home and seek guidance where needed. I would also encourage families to book a course counselling session if they need support throughout this process.

Looking ahead, we are also excited for the opening night of our school production on Thursday 30 July. We look forward to seeing many of our Senior School students showcase their talents on stage and encourage members of our community to come along and support what promises to be an outstanding performance.

As always, we continue to reinforce our high expectations across the Senior Campus. This includes a focus on uniform, punctuality, and the effective use of study periods. It has been particularly pleasing to see the strong level of engagement in classes, including effective First 10s and Do Nows, along with a noticeable reduction in students out of class.

We ask for continued support from our families in reinforcing expectations during the school day. The Presentation Space and Silent Study Space are designated for study only, and students should only be in these areas if they are actively working. Similarly, we are reinforcing that the 400s are not to be used during recess and lunchtime. These expectations are in place to support effective study habits, particularly as the term progresses and academic demands increase.

These expectations are not simply about compliance but reflect the pride we have in our school and the standards we know our students are capable of meeting. When students consistently demonstrate Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Empathy, they contribute to a positive and purposeful learning environment for all.
