Road Safety Reminder 

The safety of our students remains a priority, and we ask families to reinforce safe road behaviours with their children when travelling to and from school. 

Recently, we have observed students crossing roads without checking for traffic, walking in front of moving vehicles and becoming distracted by mobile phones while travelling. These behaviours significantly increase the risk of serious injury. 

We have also noticed students riding bicycles without helmets. Wearing an approved helmet is a legal requirement and is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of head injuries in the event of an accident. 

We encourage all students to: 

• Stay alert and avoid using mobile phones when crossing roads. 
• Stop, look and listen before crossing. 
• Use designated pedestrian crossings wherever possible. 
• Wear a correctly fitted helmet when riding a bicycle. 
• Follow all road safety rules and school expectations when travelling to and from school. 

Families are also reminded that students are not permitted to travel to or from school using e-scooters or e-bikes. These devices present significant safety risks, particularly in busy school environments, and are not permitted under school expectations (see message from Victoria Police below).

E-Bikes and E-scooters are not permitted at Frankston High School.

Frankston High School has received information from Victoria Police regarding the safe use of e-bikes and e-scooters. With an increasing number of young people using these devices in our local community, we are sharing this information to support families in understanding the safety risks, legal requirements and responsibilities associated with their use.

The attached resources outline key safety expectations, including helmet requirements, age restrictions, appropriate riding locations, speed limits and the risks associated with illegal or modified devices. We encourage families to discuss these expectations with their children to help ensure they are making safe choices and protecting themselves and others in the community.
