Outdoor Learning - Keen Green Team and the Grade 6 Environment Pillar

We had a great day out at the MCG.
It was great to share the things we do in our Outdoor Learning program of KGT and Enviro Pillar.
At the MCG we shared about our Outdoor Learning Program - animal, plants and operations programs. Every visitor to our stall got a wombat stamp after we shared our Sustainability journey with them. We then visited other stalls where we also got stamps in our special passport. Special thanks to Ms. Brennan for organising a flyer for us to advertise our school and to our parent helper Yanna.
The award was won by Tecoma Primary School. Even though we did not win we are very proud of our nomination and are looking forward to getting more stars on our Resource Smart board.
The Foundation students have had a wonderful time learning about and caring for the different pets around our school. Through looking after our class stick insects, students have been developing a strong sense of responsibility. Each day, students take turns watering their habitat, and some even help find fresh leaves to keep our stick insects healthy and happy.
We have also enjoyed regular visits from the guinea pigs, creating LEGO houses for them and watching them explore as they searched for the grass, hay, and carrots we had hidden for them. Our animal adventures continued with visits to the school chickens, where students were thrilled to discover their very first eggs! Leo and Arianah were lucky enough to take the eggs home, with Leo using them to make a delicious pancake.
We were also excited to welcome Melissa to our classroom, where she introduced us to some of her special pets. Students watched a duckling swim, met baby chickens, and even had the opportunity to hold baby guinea pigs. It was a memorable experience that brought lots of smiles, excitement, and learning for everyone involved.
The Nude Food Campaign.
As part of our school's commitment to reducing waste and caring for our environment, the Keen Green Team is thrilled to launch our Nude Food Campaign!
Starting on Monday 1st June and running for the rest of the term, we are asking all families to pack wrapper-free lunches on Mondays and Tuesdays.
On these two days, students are encouraged to bring:
- ✓Food in reusable containers or recyclable packaging
- ✓Snacks and sandwiches without plastic wrap or foil wrappers
- ✓Drink bottles instead of juice pouches or cans
- ✗No single-use wrappers, cling wrap, or glad wrap please
What will we be doing? At recess on Mondays and Tuesdays, teachers will be counting wrappers in lunchboxes. Lunch orders will also be tallied at lunchtime. This helps us track how much waste we're reducing as a school community and we can celebrate our progress together!
How you can help for the rest of term
Reducing lunchbox rubbish is something every family can take part in. Even small changes like swapping a packet of chips for food in a container, or a wrapped muesli bar for a homemade treat. These small changes make a real difference when the whole school takes part.
Rubbish in our school affects our learning environment, our grounds, and the wider world around us. Together, we can make our school cleaner, greener, and something to be truly proud of.
Thank you for supporting our Keen Green Team and helping us build a more sustainable school.
Thanks to the families who have been coming to help at KGT on Wednesdays at 2.30pm.
Your support is appreciated.
Please join us at 2.30 on a Wednesday. We welcome all volunteers.
