Principal Report

Our school is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

Dear Families,

As we approach the end of term, I would like to take this opportunity to share important updates and reflections on key areas of our school community.

Reporting and Assessment

At Boroondara Park Primary School, we place great importance on building strong connections between teachers and families. Open lines of communication are essential in supporting each child’s learning journey. When teachers and families work in partnership, students benefit from consistent expectations, encouragement, and shared understanding of their progress and needs. We encourage families to stay connected with classroom teachers and engage in conversations about their child’s learning both at school and at home.

Assessment is a vital component of this process, providing insight into student achievement and guiding future teaching and learning. At BPPS, we utilise both summative and formative assessment practices:

  • Summative Assessment provides a snapshot of student learning at a particular point in time. Examples include:
    • PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests)
    • Essential Assessment
    • NAPLAN
  • Formative Assessment is ongoing and helps teachers adjust their teaching to meet student needs. Examples include:
    • Classroom observations
    • Student work samples
    • Learning tasks and checkpoints
    • Feedback discussions and goal setting

Together, these approaches ensure that we are closely monitoring progress and providing targeted support to maximise every student’s growth.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is essential for student success. Being at school every day supports not only academic achievement but also social development, routine building, and a sense of belonging within the school community.

In the coming weeks, I will be contacting families to better understand student absences and to explore the best ways we can support students in returning to consistent attendance. Our intention is to work in partnership with families to remove barriers and ensure every child feels confident and supported in attending school.

Building Project

We are excited to share that further information regarding our major building project will soon be available. This development represents an important investment in the future of our school.

To keep our community informed, I plan to:

  • Establish an information board at school with regular updates
  • Host an information evening outside of school hours, providing families with the opportunity to learn more and ask questions

We look forward to sharing these developments with you shortly.

Community

Our school community continues to grow stronger through connection and communication.

  • WhatsApp Class Representative Groups have now been established, and families will be added shortly. These groups will help strengthen communication within each class and build a sense of community among families.
  • We also encourage all families to join our social media platforms. These channels are a wonderful way to stay up to date with school news, celebrate student achievements, and share in the many successes across our school.

Please help us grow our online community by joining and inviting other families to do the same.

Assembly and End of Term

Our final assembly for the term will be held this week at 1:30pm, followed by early dismissal at 2:30pm.

As we head into the holiday break, I encourage all families to take time to rest, reconnect, and recharge. Holidays provide an important opportunity for students to relax, spend time with family and friends, and return to school refreshed and ready to learn. Whether it’s enjoying time outdoors, reading together, or simply slowing down, we hope this break is a positive and rejuvenating time for all.
