Stage 5 Sport

KKHS  Shoutout to our teachers and students for killing it at sport this term! I had a visit to Dullboys last week and Aqua Golf today and was very impressed with the skills of our kids. Nate was stoked to win a voucher to the lolly shop at Hunter Valley Gardens and got himself a treat.

iGym is popular as always and is a great opportunity for those who may not have access out side of school hours.

Our walking crew is also a hit and I’ve had some really positive feedback, particularly from our Kuta Kaya students.

Additionally, sport is looking awesome up at the gym and down at the basketball court. Go team!

Our Hands on Learning Crew are a team of Year 9 boys who do put use practical projects to develop valuable learning and life skills.  Throughout this term, the boys have been busy working on two projects, the first is the construction of a purpose built Catio for HVAFARC and the other, is to build, install and create raised flower beds here at school as part of a beautification project.  To see the Catio, go to the Deputies  Desk and watch the video. Otherwise, watch here as the boys get the first of the raised beds built.

Students have been doing a case study of the mundane and every-day searching for the iconography that can be reflected within it. Students have been examining everything from rotting fruit to animal skulls and trying to recreate the textures andunique shadows in a variety of mediums, arranging them with purpose in their own compositions. They have analysed the works of Pieter Claesz, Pablo Picasso, Audrey Flackand Henri Matisse to see how artists can hide layers of symbolism in drawings of simpleeveryday objects.

Skateboard Designs

Year 10 Visual Design students have been completing their vibrant skateboard deck designs, transforming their original graphic concepts into eye-catching artworks. Using acrylic paint and Posca paint pens, students have developed their technical skills while exploring colour, composition, and visual communication inspired by professional skateboard and streetwear brands. We look forward to showcasing their impressive finished designs with the school community soon.

Year 10 English

This term, Year 10 students have been studying how texts create powerful images and distinctive voices, and the impact this has on meaning and audience interpretation. Students demonstrated their learning in their recent in-class assessment task, where they wrote under exam conditions to construct an in-class essay. Teachers commented on the excellent focus, maturity and resilience shown, with students producing sustained and thoughtful responses right up until the very last minute. Well done, Year 10!

Year 10 Food Technology students recently completed an assessment task on Food for Specific Needs, focusing on planning and preparing meals to meet individual dietary requirements. Students applied their knowledge of nutrition and food selection to design balanced and suitable meals for a chosen client.

A variety of dishes were produced, including fruity oats, Caesar salad, toasted sandwiches, Mexican wraps, and garlic prawns. Students demonstrated creativity, practical cookery skills, and an understanding of how to modify meals to meet specific dietary considerations while maintaining quality and presentation.
