Principal's Message
Mr Alan Hope
As we approach the end of another busy and successful term, I would like to thank our students, families, and staff for their continued support in making our school a positive place to learn, grow, and belong.
As the cooler weather continues, I would like to remind our students and families of the importance of students wearing the correct school uniform each day. Our uniform is an important part of our school identity, promoting pride, belonging, and a positive image within our community. We ask that students wear approved school uniform items, including navy blue tights, rather than black tights for girls, to ensure consistency across the school. If your family requires assistance with purchasing school uniform items, please don't hesitate to contact the school. We are committed to supporting every student to attend school feeling confident, and ready to learn.

This term we proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week, recognising and celebrating the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Students enjoyed a wide range of activities throughout the week, including our popular NAIDOC Art and craft sale, which showcased the incredible talents of our students, as well as sporting competitions that brought students together in the spirit of teamwork, respect, and friendly competition. Thank you to all staff and students who helped make these celebrations such a success.
A significant milestone for our newest students was the Year 7 Camp. Camp provided an invaluable opportunity for students to build friendships, develop resilience, challenge themselves, and strengthen their connection to our school community, while doing some fun challenges and activities along the way… It was wonderful to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, supporting one another, and creating memories that will stay with them throughout their high school journey.
Our Clontarf Academy students also enjoyed an unforgettable experience this term, taking to the field under the lights at McDonald Jones Stadium before a Newcastle Knights NRL match. Representing our school on such a prestigious stage was an incredible achievement and a testament to the commitment and teamwork demonstrated by our students. Congratulations to everyone in our Clontarf Academy for making this memorable opportunity possible.

We were also lucky to welcome our future Year 7, 2027 students and their families during our Term 2 transition events for students and information evening for parents. These visits are an exciting first step in helping our newest students become familiar with our school, meet staff and students, and begin building confidence before they officially join us next year. We will have one more transition day in Term 4 while also welcoming year 5 students in term 3.

Looking ahead, we are excited for Education Week in Term 3, which promises to be another fantastic opportunity to celebrate learning, creativity, and student achievement including our House Cup and Education Week Awards Assembly. This year also marks a very special milestone as Kurri Kurri High School celebrates its 70th Anniversary. We look forward to recognising the rich history of our school and the generations of students, staff, and families who have contributed to its success. As part of these celebrations, our 'Buy a Brick' fundraiser provides current and former members of our community with the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy and own a special piece of our school's history.
We encourage all students to get involved in the spirit of Education Week and celebrate a special milestone for our school. Stay tuned to our social media channels for more events coming to celebrate this milestone.
Finally, we wish our Year 12 students every success as they prepare for their Trial HSC Examinations immediately following the upcoming holidays. These examinations are an important milestone in their final year of schooling. We encourage our senior students to use the holiday break wisely by balancing study with rest and wellbeing, and we know they will approach this challenge with determination and resilience. This is of course leading into the final term for our incredible year 12 students filled with celebration and exam preparation.
Thank you for your continued partnership throughout the year. Together, we continue to create a school community where every student is encouraged to learn, achieve, and thrive. We wish all families a safe and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to another exciting term ahead.
