Kurri Kurri High School students once again shone brightly as part of the spectacular Star Struck 2026 production, joining thousands of students from across the region in one of the largest performing arts events in New South Wales.
This year, Kurri Kurri High School was proudly represented not only by our talented students but also by members of our CAPAL staff. Nathan Faulkner was part of the production team as a Vocal Director, while Amber Harris led one of the event's Backing Vocal Groups, helping to prepare students for the outstanding performances seen on stage.
A special congratulations goes to Isla Robinson, who was selected as a Featured Vocalist. Isla captivated audiences with lead vocal performances in both Purple People Eater and Bruce, showcasing her exceptional talent and stage presence on the Newcastle Entertainment Centre stage.
Our dance students also embraced the opportunity to perform in this year's production. Led by Beth Murray and supported by Amelia Lewis and Ms Lynch, our dancers performed in the energetic items Sweet Dreams and Express Yourself This Way. Our Support Unit dancers also took to the stage, proudly representing our school in Waka Waka and I Made It, delighting audiences with their enthusiasm, confidence, and commitment.
Star Struck is much more than a performance. It provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills, build friendships, challenge themselves, and experience the excitement of being part of a professional-scale production. Throughout weeks of rehearsals and performances, students created lifelong memories and formed connections that will remain long after the final curtain call.
We are incredibly proud of all our students and staff who contributed to this year's production. Their dedication, teamwork, and passion truly embodied the spirit of the Star Struck family and demonstrated what it means to be "Out of the Ordinary."

What a busy and productive start to the year it has been for the Bee Humble Program! Our students have hit the ground running, showing incredible dedication to our local hives and the environment.
We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate a massive achievement: our program's honey took home “Best Honey” at both the Maitland and Newcastle shows! Winning at both events is a testament to the hard work our students put into maintaining healthy, thriving colonies and producing high-quality local honey.
Recently, we were lucky to expand our team, doubling in size. The students new and old participated in a hands-on excursion to the hives to perform essential maintenance. This wasn't just about observation; our young beekeepers took an active role in hive health by treating the colonies for invasive bugs and common diseases. During this visit, we were also able to successfully collect fresh honey and beautiful honeycomb, which will be processed and shared with our community.
Our students are currently working hard on some 'big ideas' for the future of the program. There are exciting developments in the works, so be sure to watch this space for more updates soon!

We are proud to recognise Nash, a Year 9 student who has achieved something truly unique outside of school.
Through dedication, passion, and an impressive level of commitment, Nash has successfully earned his Steam Train Learner’s Licence (Ls) — an outstanding milestone in a highly specialised field. This achievement reflects not only his enthusiasm, but also his willingness to take on complex challenges and develop real-world skills well beyond the classroom.
Working towards operating a steam locomotive requires focus, responsibility, and a strong understanding of technical processes — and Nash has embraced every part of that journey with determination.
This is just the beginning, and we have no doubt Nash is on track for even greater accomplishments ahead.
