WELLBEING &
ENGAGEMENT

Our Reading for Pleasure Program continues to be a highlight for many students across Stage 4. It has been wonderful to see students settling into their reading, sharing book recommendations with friends, and exploring new genres they may not have considered before. Many students have commented that they enjoy having dedicated time to read, relax, and become immersed in a good book.
We encourage all students to make reading a regular part of their daily routine, both at school and at home. The library's collection continues to grow, providing plenty of opportunities for students to discover their next great read.
A reminder to students participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge to regularly update their reading log. Every book counts and keeping logs up to date ensures their reading achievements are recognised.

Happy reading!
This term, our Year 7 and Year 8 groups within the NCIS program, transitioned our learning environment to the local PCYC each Tuesday and Friday, we have seen a shift in student engagement, attendance, and community connections.
Literacy

Students in Years 7 and 8 engaged in creative and thought-provoking literacy activities this term. Year 7 explored the evolution of folklore by comparing original Brothers Grimm fairytales with modern Disney adaptations, examining how and why stories are altered for different audiences. They also developed practical life skills by creating their own résumés and learning about the importance of professional documentation. Meanwhile, Year 8 students investigated the power of language through a range of poetic forms, including rap analysis, blackout poetry, and sensory poems, using their own experiences as inspiration to express themselves creatively and build confidence in their unique voices.

Numeracy
In Numeracy, Year 7 students strengthened their mathematical foundations by solving multi-step equations and applying their number skills to interpret and navigate real-world timetables. Year 8 focused on developing understanding of fractions, decimals, and percentages, learning to convert between these forms and apply them to practical, everyday situations.
Life Skills: The NCIS Kitchen

Every week, students took full responsibility for their nutrition by cooking and cleaning up their own lunches. This hands-on curriculum focused on hygiene, kitchen safety, and teamwork. Our menu this term included: Powerbowls, Butter Chicken, Beef Burritos, Chicken and Bacon Carbonara, Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders with Mac & Cheese, etc.
PCYC Wellbeing

Students made full use of the PCYC facilities. Whether conquering fears on the rock-climbing wall, developing strength and coordination in gymnastics, or practicing persistence at the skatepark, the physical activity sessions were a highlight of every week. Central to our program is 'Circle Time.' These discussions provide a safe space for students to address social issues, develop interpersonal skills, and ensure their voices are heard in shaping their own learning environment.
Thank you to all the parents and carers for your ongoing support of the NCIS program. We look forward to another fantastic term of growth and achievement!
