In week 5, Kuta-kaya students attended the Hunter Explorer event, organised in conjunction with Hunter Valley Gardens & Roche Estate. Students had access to HVG, Aqua golf and Mercure resort events. The goal of the day was to expose students to potential opportunities locally in Tourism, Events and Hospitality, as a part of the schools Educational Pathways Program.

Our Kuta-kaya Stage 5 & 6 students have recently enjoyed a range of exciting and valuable work experience opportunities, giving them the chance to explore future career pathways and build real-world skills. Placements included Automotive, School Learning Support Officer (SLSO), Tyre Fitting, and Greenkeeping. Students represented our school with pride, demonstrating enthusiasm, responsibility, and a willingness to learn.
Claire, Yr12 said, “I like being in the classroom with the kids and helping them in the playground.”
We are incredibly proud of our students’ efforts and grateful to the local businesses and mentors who supported them throughout their placements. These experiences provide an important step towards future employment and career success.
Banjo, Yr10 said “It was great being in the workshop and working with the apprentices.”

The Kuta-kaya Mother’s Day Stall was a wonderful success, raising an incredible $1,400 profit thanks to the generosity and support of our school community. We would like to sincerely thank all families, students, staff, and community members who donated items, volunteered their time, and supported the stall by making purchases. The stall provided Kuta-kaya students a valuable real-life learning opportunity, allowing them to develop skills in communication, money handling, customer service, teamwork, and responsibility in a practical and engaging setting. Every dollar raised will go directly towards Kuta-kaya, creating vibrant new murals in our outdoor space, helping to make our school environment even more welcoming and engaging for students. We are so grateful for the ongoing support of our community.

Students from Kawul class at Kurri Kurri High School recently visited their local Return and Earn depot to recycle cans and bottles collected by Marin, turning a community activity into a valuable Mathematics and Community Skills learning experience.
During the excursion, Year 7 students practised important numeracy, including counting containers, estimating money totals, and converting values from cents to dollars. Students used the Return and Earn rate of 10 cents per container to calculate how much money could be raised, helping them apply real-world mathematical thinking in a practical setting.
The excursion also supported the development of community skills such as teamwork, communication, cooperation, and environmental responsibility. Students worked together to organise the containers and learned how recycling can positively impact both the environment and the local community.
