Library Matters

We are excited to announce that our school once again will be participating in the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge this year. The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual statewide initiative that aims to encourage students to develop a love of reading and improve their literacy skills.

The challenge is open to all students from Kindergarten to Year 10 in NSW schools. To complete the challenge, students need to read 20 books, including 10 free choice and 10 from a designated reading list, before the 23rd August 2024.

The reading list includes a wide range of books from different genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and graphic novels. The books have been carefully selected to cater to the diverse interests and reading levels of students. You can access the full list of approved books online or search for specific books using the PRC Student Portal.

Participating in the Premier's Reading Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and imagination, as well as develop their literacy skills. It also promotes a reading culture within the school community and encourages students to engage in discussions about the books they have read.

Our school will be supporting students to participate in the challenge by providing access to the reading list and by placing PRC stickers on all approved books sitting on our shelves. Our Year 7 and 8 classes will have an extra opportunity to access these books with their fortnightly Wide Reading lessons, but we encourage all students to take part in the challenge and to embrace the joy of reading.

Last year we had 7 students complete the challenge, reading a total 140 books between them. This year we’ve already had one eager student complete the challenge, with several more updating their accounts to record what they’ve been reading. Congratulations to Audrey in Year 8 for finishing the challenge early!

If your child is looking for something fun to read which will contribute to the challenge, they can access thousands of free eBooks and audiobooks via our virtual library. New titles are added every month!

We also have an abundance of physical books on order which should be arriving shortly, so keep an eye on our new release display in the library! In the meantime, here’s a quick wrap up of our library for Term 1, 2024.
