Year 12, 2024

It's been very busy for Year 12 so far this year, and it's a long road ahead to the HSC exams in October. Students are currently completing their second round of assessment tasks and I have been impressed with the commitment that the majority have shown towards their studies. As both the Year Advisor and Senior Learning Mentor, I have witnessed their pleasing work ethic over the last eight weeks.

Besides the academic rigor of being in Year 12, we have also shared some fun and memorable times this term. The calendar highlight of the year was Valentine's Day in February. Many of the Year 12 students dressed up and performed songs for our students. Others delivered roses, messages and chocolate hearts. It was the usual chaos, but a fun day was had by all. We also had a Valentine themed bake sale with lots of yummy cupcakes, brownies, etc. Our next event on the fun calendar was the swimming  carnival where Yr 12 dressed up according to a particular decade. We saw many awesome costumes such as gangsters, the Spice Girls, Ken and Barbie, Elvis just to name a few.

There have been some amazing individual achievements by talented students in Year 12 throughout term one. Caitlyn Brazier performed exceptionally well in the National Championships in cycling, and Isabella Trevina played in the National Softball championships, captaining the New South Wales team and were the eventual winners. An amazing achievement by both girls.

I had the pleasure of attending the MWLP awards in Week 7 where two of our students, Jasper, Browne and Sebastian Brosius were presented with awards for being the most outstanding students in their work placements in Entertainment and Primary Industries, respectively. This was a fantastic achievement. And to top it off, we were entertained during the evening by a whole host of incredibly talented musicians who wowed the audience.

Angelina Buakao and Caterina Webber attended the International Women's Day Gala dinner in Week 6 with Mr Sambuco and heard from the legendary Olympian, Jana Pittman who was the guest speaker at the event. I believe Mr Sambuco was even more starstruck than the girls were! A great evening.

Now that the assessment period is over for Year 12, it is time to start preparing for those dreaded Trial HSC exams at the end of term two. Students have access to Edrolo online and practice HSC exam papers in the senior study area to help them prepare. I’m happy for you to take a little time out of your studies to rehearse for our next big event - THE LIP SYNC BATTLE!
