Back to the 80s

Our Arts team has been very busy these last few weeks! In May we had our annual music camp for the orchestra, bands and choirs, held at Urban Camp in Parkville. Music camp is always the highlight of the year for many students, and amidst three days of rehearsal we managed to go for a group walk to Lygon St for Yochi! We concluded the camp with a concert showcasing all the work done over the weekend.

A lot of the work done was in preparation for our upcoming school musical, Back to the 80s! Back at school our cast has been working hard learning lines and blocking, as have our Year 7, Year 8 and Senior School choruses. These students have been incredibly dedicated, with rehearsals running Monday to Thursday, either at lunch or after school. Our incredible Specialist Dancers recently performed part of their routine at a whole school assembly to promote the show in a demonstration of the talent involved.

Thank you to our student choreographers who have been directing our big chorus numbers:

  • Elodie Mumme (Specialist Dancers- Footloose)

  • Odette Eales-Grziwotz (Senior School Chorus “9-5”)

  • Audrey Taylor and Zoe Whittiker (Year 8 Chorus, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Centrefold”)

  • Isabella  Ciolli (Year 7 Chorus, “Walking on Sunshine” and “Kids in America”)

A huge thank you to Mr Hicks and our student Orchestra, who have been rehearsing the score every Wednesday before school and sound amazing. You can hear a sneak peek at their upcoming concert on Wednesday 24 May.

Outside of the production, we are in the middle of soiree season, which included our Dance Night, VCE Music Performance Nights, Drama Night and Music Nights, in which students demonstrate the talents honed over the school semester. Wishing the best of luck to all students performing!

Costume Brief

Please find attached the costume-brief powerpoint for the cast and chorus of “Back to the 80s”. Students will be supplying their own costumes, accessories and wigs. We will provide however the footy jerseys, netball/cheerleader skirts.

Meanwhile – we need a KILT. If anyone has a kilt at home that they would be willing to lend us for production week, we would be most grateful. Please email  lindy.mumm@mgc.vic.edu.au if you are able to help us out.
