Year 11 & 12 Sub-School News

Assistant Principal's Report
As Term Two concludes, there have been many important school events taking place, including Unit 1 Examinations, the GAT, the Year 11 Formal and a range of music nights.
The Unit 1 Examinations provided students with an important opportunity to experience formal exam conditions and develop confidence in preparing for assessment. For many students, this was a valuable chance to practise revision strategies, manage time under exam conditions and reflect on the study habits that will support them as they continue through their senior years.
Students completing a Unit 3 and 4 subject also completed Sections A and B of the GAT, providing further experience with VCAA style assessment processes in preparation for end of year examinations. A highlight of the day was the break between sections, where students were able to enjoy muffins, recharge, take a breath and reset before continuing with the next part of the assessment.
The Year 11 Formal was a wonderful opportunity for Year 11 students to come together and celebrate as a cohort. There was lots of dancing, a photo booth and time spent with peers and staff, making it a memorable evening for everyone involved. It was fantastic to hear a mix of older and new music and the students' enthusiasm all evening. The student formal committee worked tirelessly in preparation, and students were truly appreciative of their work on the evening.
We have also enjoyed a range of music nights, including guitar and drums, strings and the vocal showcase. These events highlighted the talent, creativity and commitment of our students, as well as the strength of our performing arts program.
As we move into Semester Two, students have started their Unit 2 and Unit 4 content or begun new subjects, giving them the opportunity to engage in fresh learning experiences, explore new interests and continue developing their skills.
In the wellbeing space, we are continuing the rollout of teen Mental Health First Aid for all Year 10 students. This important program supports students to build their understanding of mental health, recognise when someone may need help and develop the confidence to seek support from trusted adults and services.
We are also continuing the Body Project initiative through student leadership with a number of students.
Course Counselling information has begun to be distributed to students and information nights will be held early in Term Three, along with the valuable course counselling days. Students and families are encouraged to discuss subject choices, career pathways and different opportunities for the future over the school holidays in preparation for this exciting time.
Over the Term Two holidays, families may find the Yarra Youth Services holiday program a helpful resource, along with information about where to get support for your young person. These resources can provide valuable opportunities, activities and guidance for young people and their families during the break.

The formal is always a highlight of the year for our Year 11 students, and this year was no exception. They looked absolutely stunning and celebrated the end of Unit 1 exams in style!
The standout moment of the evening was when the entire cohort took to the dance floor, singing at the top of their lungs alongside their friends, classmates and teachers. It was a wonderful, joyful sight, complete with some pretty epic dance moves!
A big congratulations to our award winners who won coveted awards such as best dressed, cutest couple and most likely to become a meme! I would like to extend sincere thanks to the formal committee for their hard work in helping me to plan the evening and to the MGC staff for supervising the event and joining in the fun.
The cohort came together in spectacular fashion, with the evening bursting to life as it captured the vibrant spirit of our school community, with students and staff alike lighting up and owning the dance floor.
I wish all Year 11 students a happy and restful holiday break and look forward to seeing them again in what is promising to be a busy and exciting Term Three.

Congratulations to all the Year 12s who sat their last GAT on Tuesday. With over 400 students sitting the GAT in the gym and in various spaces around the school, we managed to pull it off without a hitch.
The past six weeks have been hectic, with final assessments due for Unit 3 and the beginning of Unit 4 now underway. Students and staff have been incredibly busy, and we congratulate everyone on the hard work and commitment they have shown.
Over the break, we encourage all students to spend time revising and preparing for their final term of learning before the official exams begin around the start of Term Four.
For the 2026 cohort, MGC is in the middle of planning a fantastic night of celebration for students and their families. Over the next few weeks, please look out for the Newsfeed post that will allow families to purchase Valedictory tickets. Valedictory will be held on Tuesday 20 October. It is a huge night where we can all come together and congratulate students on their incredible achievements. There will be tears, laughs, fun memories and lots and lots of photos.
But before we get to the fun part, there is still a lot of hard work to be done by our cohort. Keep learning, keep engaging and keep smiling as you work towards the end of an incredible 13 years of formal learning.
So, advice from the VCE team to our Year 12 cohort: well done on a great two terms. Enjoy some home time over the break, have a few long sleep-ins and recharge for your final term. You’ve got this.
