Year 7 Visual Art - Alter Ego
Throughout this project, students explored the concept of identity and self-expression by creating an artwork that represents both their real-world self and their imagined, inner self; their alter ego.
These self-portraits are fragmented mixed-media pieces that feature a portrait of the student's everyday appearance while also revealing who they are beyond what people normally see.
Year 8 Visual Art - Appropriation
In this unit, students learnt how to explore and respond to the work of artists from different historical periods and art movements. By analysing how these artists used materials, techniques and visual conventions to communicate ideas and meaning, they gained a deeper understanding of the role art has played over time.
Through the process of appropriation, they reimagined and reinterpreted an existing artwork to create an original painting that reflects their own perspective. The painting references historical styles or concepts.
Year 9 Visual Art - Stitched Identities
Year 9 students responded to the work of contemporary artist Maurizio Anzeri, who is known for stitching directly into found photographs. Using embroidery on paper, students explored how line, pattern, and colour can transform an image and suggest ideas about identity, emotion, and self-expression.
By masking, revealing, and reimagining facial features, students experimented with how identity can be altered, hidden, or emphasised. They also explored how unconventional methods can give new meaning to images. The stitched lines extend beyond decoration - they act as symbols of thoughts, feelings, and personality, challenging traditional ideas of portraiture.
Year 9 Animation - Flip Book
Students created a practical, hand-drawn animation each using the 12 principles of animation. The video is a compilation of all the students' work.
Year 9 Photography
The Year 9 photography students visited Melbourne Zoo during May to showcase techniques learnt throughout the semester.
Some of the key skills displayed were depth of field, showing and freezing movement, creative use of composition and the rule of thirds.
Students used the Canon EOS 1500D DSLR cameras. We are very grateful to the Parents' Association for supporting us with a grant to buy extra cameras.
Year 10 Visual Communication Design - Zoos Victoria Wild Stay Experiences
Students in year 10VCD, have been designing a range of products, communications and environmental components for a Zoo “Wild Stays” experience by introducing a series of immersive, animal-themed cabins. Each cabin was designed around a specific animal and its natural environment, creating a unique overnight experience for children and families.
Year 10 Visual Communication Design - Design’s Influence and Influence on Design
Students designed a sustainable hanging lampshade made primarily from a single sheet of cardboard. Inspired by Australian natural forms, origami and/or architecture, each design demonstrates consideration of environmental responsibility, material efficiency and contemporary aesthetics.
Through the application of circular design practices, students developed functional and visually engaging objects that minimise waste while responding to a specific audience, purpose and context.
