News from Grade Three

WEEK 4 | TERM 3

STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Dear Grade 3 Families, 

What an amazing start to Term 3! We have had so many fun and engaging activities already, and still so many more planned. Our Grade 3’s are becoming experts in our expectations, and they have jumped straight into their learning.

📚 Reading

We have been learning to write summaries for fiction and non-fiction texts using specific strategies. We have explored short stories and information texts about animals, which has been helping us expand our knowledge in Writing and Inquiry. We are still developing our stamina while reading, and working on remaining focused on our texts while we read.

✍️ Writing

We have been exploring non-fiction information texts in Writing, learning to collect information from information reports, and put them into an organised structure, while keeping our readers engaged. This includes writing in paragraphs, using headings and sub-headings, adding details and evidence, and perfecting introductions and conclusions. 

🔢 Numeracy

In Numeracy we are developing our multiplicative thinking skills. We are exploring different ways to multiply numbers, such as using groups of, arrays, number lines and the vertical strategy. We are quickly becoming confident mathematicians and we will soon be diving into division. 

🔍 Inquiry

All of our students have been looking forward to our Reptile Encounters Incursion! It was such a fun experience for those who participated. We got to see native Australian animals like the red-tailed black cockatoo, a stick insect, a squirrel glider, a green tree frog, a murray turtle, an olive python, and even a salt water crocodile! We learned so much about these animals life cycles and their habitats, which will help us later on in the term when we begin to learn more about ecosystems. 

Reminders

Homework was sent home this week and is due back on Thursday 20th August.

The yellow-highlighted activities (Reading, Writing & Numeracy) are compulsory and should be completed by the due date. At least 4 activities must be completed. All other activities are optional but encouraged.

Students are encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes each evening. Please record this in their Reading Log and return it to school each Friday so books can be changed and reading logs checked.

We are looking forward to the rest of the learning experiences that we have planned for the rest of Term 3!
