Prep:  

This term in Physical Education, the Prep students will explore two units of work. In the Fundamental Motor Skills unit, students will focus on kicking and being able to kick different objects with different techniques. They will focus on a drop punt and a soccer kick. For the team building unit, students will practice working with others, what makes a good team, how to be a good teammate, following the rules in games and playing fairly and safely. Students will be exposed to a range of new and different games which will help them with their problem solving skills and give them the opportunity to showcase their teamwork ability.  

 

Specific Skills:

  • Practise different kicking techniques such as a drop punt and a soccer kick
  • Demonstrate what it means to work in a positive team by playing in different class games
  • Practise working in a team and using effective problem solving skills in new games

 

 

 


 

One:This term in Physical Education, the Grade 1 students will explore two units of work. In the Fundamental Skills unit, students will continue to practise their kicking skills. They will focus on a drop punt kick and an inside foot soccer kick using the relevant equipment to complete these skills. In the team building unit, students will explore teamwork and what it means to be in a good team. They will learn how to function in a team, begin to understand the roles and responsibilities within a team and how to work with each other in a positive way to achieve successful outcomes.

Specific Skills:

  • Practise kicking skills used in AFL and soccer. This will include a drop punt kick and a soccer kick
  • Demonstrate what positive teamwork looks like by undertaking roles and responsibilities while participating in new whole class games
  • Practise working with others fairly and safely while playing in various games 

 

 

 


Two: This term in Physical Education, the Grade 2 students will explore two units of work. In the Fundamental Skills unit, students will continue to practise and refine their kicking skills with a focus on an AFL kick and a soccer kick. Students will begin to incorporate these skills into modified games of each sport. In the team building unit, students will explore what makes a good team, how they can be a cooperative member of a team and unpacking in more detail the roles and responsibilities within a team. Students will explore and participate in various games that use these positive teamwork traits and will have the opportunity to showcase their learning.

 

 

Specific Skills:

  • Refine the movement skill of kick by performing a drop punt and a soccer kick while playing in modified games of each sport
  • Cooperate with others and demonstrate what it looks like to work in a positive team during modified games
  • Discuss and identify in detail the roles and responsibilities within a team and why they are important in a successful team

 

 

Three: 

This term in Physical Education, the Grade 3 students will explore wall and net sports. Over this term, students will spend time playing different wall and net sports and learn what the key features are. Students will continue to practise all the fundamental movement skills required for badminton, volleyball and tennis using the skill of striking when playing each sport. We will be using a games-based approach to the learning, meaning students will be given opportunities to play each of these sports and begin to unpack the rules required to play each sport, how to work in a team and how to use strategy to have successful outcomes. Students will have a focus during this term on teamwork and what it means to work in a positive team environment. 

 

Specific Skills:

  • Practise using skills in games while playing Badminton, Volleyball and Tennis
  • Practise striking different objects with either a racquet or arm working on power, accuracy and correct techniques 
  • Explore decision-making skills when playing wall and net sports

 


 

Four: 

This term in Physical Education, the Grade 4 students will explore wall and net sports. Over this term, students will spend time playing different wall and net sports and learn what these games are. Students will continue to practise all the fundamental movement skills required for Badminton, Volleyball and Tennis using the skill of striking when playing. Students will work on different strike types and work on using strategy when applying them. We will be using a games-based approach to the learning, meaning students will be given opportunities to play each of these sports and begin to understand the rules required to play each game, how to work in a team and how to use strategy to have successful outcomes. Students will have a focus during this term on teamwork and what it means to work in a positive team environment. 

 

Specific Skills:

  • Use skills in games while playing Badminton, Volleyball and Tennis and apply rules fairly
  • Work on the skill of striking and being able to apply strategic placement of each strike when playing in games of each sport
  • Use critical thinking skills when applying tactics in wall and net sports

 

 


 

Five:  

This term in Physical Education, the Grade 5 students will explore wall and net sports, how to play them and how to work well in a team. In this unit on wall and net sports, students will continue to practise transferring from one skill to another while playing sports such as Badminton, Volleyball and Tennis. In addition to this, students will apply strategic thinking when playing against others in these sports and try to use strategic placement of strikes to create advantage. Students will use cooperative skills to work in small teams to plan out roles and responsibilities when playing in different sports so that teams are fair and everyone is given an opportunity to contribute.

 

Specific Skills:

  • Practising using the skill of striking in the sports of Badminton, Volleyball and Tennis 
  • Practise using different strategies that increase chances of success, such as strategic placement of a strike
  • Use critical thinking to apply tactics such as shot selection when playing different wall and net sports
  • Plan and prepare strategies that are fair and inclusive so others can play

 

 


 

 

Six:

This term in Physical Education, the Grade 6 students will explore wall and net sports and will focus on Badminton, Volleyball and Tennis. In this unit, students will continue to refine the skill of striking across the different sports. In addition to this, students will use problem solving skills and creative thinking to create advantageous situations for their team. They will test the effectiveness of different strategies when playing against others in games and make changes to improve their performance. Students will use collaborative skills to work in a small group to create a fair play environment for everyone to participate in.

 

Specific Skills:

  • Refine the skill of striking in Badminton, Volleyball and Tennis to create advantage
  • Developing strategies with others that increase chances of success, such as strategic placement of a strike
  • Adapt movement and strategies while playing sports to increase chances of success
  • Test rules and game modifications to support fair play and inclusive participation when playing in different invasion games.
