This term in Visual Art, the Prep students will be learning about expectations and routines in the art room, underpinned by the school values. They will be supported to be creative, to engage their imaginations and to recognise themselves as artists. They will also be introduced to the idea that art can tell a story.
Specific Skills:
- Drawing simple lines and closed shapes
- Understanding and using the order of the rainbow
- Engaging their imaginations to tell a story with their art
- Resilience in their artmaking
- Using new media
One
This term in Visual Art, the Grade 1 students will be revising expectations and routines in the art room, underpinned by the school values. They will be working on their visual thinking strategies and learning to spend more time thinking about the story an artwork tells.
Specific Skills:
- Using complex lines and shapes in their art
- Exploring texture, and primary and secondary colours
- Engaging their imaginations to tell a story with their art
- Exploring the purpose of art
- Experimenting with various media
Two
This term in Visual Art, the Grade 2 students will be revising expectations and routines in the art room, underpinned by the school values. They will be working on their visual thinking strategies and learning to spend more time thinking about the story an artwork tells.

This term in Visual Art, the Grade 3 students will be revising and consolidating the expectations and routines in the art room, underpinned by the school values. They will learn to use visual thinking strategies to begin to critique and make meaning of an artwork.
Specific Skills:
- Consolidating their knowledge of line, shape and pattern
- Learning about and utilising texture and space
- Learning about the colour wheel
- Exploring the purpose of art in formal and informal settings
- Considering the most effective media for a project
Four
This term in Visual Art, the Grade 4 students will be revising and consolidating the expectations and routines in the art room, underpinned by the school values. They will learn to use visual thinking strategies to begin to critique and make meaning of an artwork.

Six
This term in Visual Art, the Grade 6 students will consolidate how to meet expectations and routines in the art room, underpinned by the school values. They will learn to use visual thinking strategies to critique and explain the artist’s intent and use of art practices.
Specific Skills:
- Revising and using the colour wheel
- Explaining how they have included the elements of art in their work
- Using artists as inspiration for their own work
- Discussing and critiquing the purpose of art in formal and informal settings
- Collaborating on choice of media for a project
