Term 3 Week 4 - Writing

This term in Writing, our Grade 2 students have been exploring explanation texts. We have been looking at how explanation texts help us understand how or why something happens.

Students started by investigating how bees make honey. They learned facts about the process and used their new knowledge to draft their own explanation texts, carefully describing each step in order.

Students have also been introduced to the important features of an explanation text, including:

  • a title
  • a general introduction
  • a clear explanation of the process.

This week, students have been researching why volcanoes erupt. They have gathered information from a variety of sources and used their research to plan and write an explanation piece, sharing their understanding of the causes of volcanic eruptions.

Throughout the term, students have been using sequencing words such as first, next, then and finally to help organise their ideas and guide the reader through the explanation. By focusing on text structure, sequencing and informative language, students are learning to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.

We are proud of the curiosity, effort and enthusiasm our students have shown while developing their skills as informative writers.
