Since our last newsletter on 10 August, our school has been buzzing with energy, creativity and achievement!
Here are just a few highlights from the recent weeks of Term 3, showcasing the talent, participation, learning and school spirit that make our Lilydale High School community so special.
☀️🎶 Sunshine, Music & Good Vibes!
What better way to wrap up Term 3 on September 17 than with some lunchtime live music!
Our talented FUNK Band brought the tunes to the Performing Arts Deck, with students and staff enjoying the sunshine, music and fantastic atmosphere.
A huge thank you to our amazing musicians for sharing their talent and helping us finish the term on such a high note! 🎶
💃🕺 Decades of Style & a Whole Lot of Lycra!
Our Year 12 students finished the term in style on Thursday 17 September, bringing plenty of colour, fun and personality to school with their decade costumes!
From retro looks to plenty of lycra, there was no shortage of bright costumes and happy vibes as our Year 12s celebrated together.
There was certainly PLENTY of lycra! 😂
🏆🏐 Sport Series - Round 3
On Thursday 17 September, our Staff vs Year 12 Sports Series continued with an exciting lunchtime volleyball showdown to celebrate the end of the term!
Congratulations to our Staff Team, who now lead the series 3–0!
Our Year 12 students put up a great fight while taking to the court in their fantastic decade costumes.

💦🎡 Dunking, Spinning & Fundraising Fun!
On Tuesday 15 September, our Year 9 Side Hustle class hosted a fun-filled lunchtime fundraiser featuring Dunk a Teacher, a sausage sizzle and Spin the Wheel — with plenty of fun and laughter!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event, and a special shout-out to our very brave staff - Mr Ward, Ms Edwards and Mr Hrabe - who took on the challenge of an icy bucket dunk! 🥶💦
What absolute champions! 👏
🧁 Year 12 Cupcake Challenge
In the second-last week of Term 3, 18 Year 12 students put on their chef hats and battled it out to see who could be crowned Lilydale High School’s Best Baker!
Each team was provided with ingredients to create and decorate their cupcakes, along with the opportunity to bring one special ingredient to include in their design. We were blown away by the creativity, skill and teamwork shown by every group.
Congratulations to our winners - Izzy, Josh, Kaelen and Shelby - who impressed the judges with their pastel-coloured creations, featuring raspberry flavouring as their special ingredient.
Coming in a close second were Jordan, Ayasha, Lucinda and Alyssa, with their super-cute unicorn cupcakes featuring fondant icing.
Students were judged on teamwork, creativity, execution of their design, flavour and texture.

Ms Ignatiadis💛 R U OK? DAY
On Thursday 10 September, our Middle School Quad was buzzing at lunchtime as students and staff came together to celebrate.....R U OK? Day and the importance of connection, kindness and looking out for one another.
Students enjoyed sausages, drinks, cookies, lollipops and face painting, along with plenty of great conversations and connection.
A special thank you to our SRC, Stand-Out Group, Compassionate Kitchen and Student Wellbeing for helping create such a fun and positive lunchtime.

🎭✨ One Actor. One Story. One Spotlight!
On Tuesday 8 September, our Unit 4 Drama students took to the stage for the Solo Showcase Evening, presenting a diverse and entertaining collection of solo performances.
From con artists and Planeteers to a cat, a Ringo Starr fill-in, Shakespeare’s Puck, Polly and Manuel, our students brought a wonderful range of characters to life.
Well done to Eddy Acuna, Ben Hade, Cal Hogeboom, Jordan Ilbury, James Leheste, Jade McCullough, York Newell, Chelsea Phillips and Hayley Philipson their hard work and dedication.

🥞🍓 Languages, Culture & Crepes!
On Thursday 4 September, as part of Language Appreciation Week, students enjoyed our much-loved free crepe giveaway at lunchtime in the Middle School Quadrangle.
The crepes went FAST, with students enjoying warm, fresh crepes topped with strawberries, Nutella and lemon juice.
It was a delicious way to celebrate language and culture at Lilydale High School, where we proudly teach French and Indonesian.
A big thank you to everyone who joined in and helped make it such a fun and tasty lunchtime.

🦉 🤝 Choose Respect, Choose to Walk Away
On Wednesday 2 September, our Year 9 students took part in an important session with Pat Cronin Foundation facilitator Blaine Healy, exploring violence prevention, conflict and respectful decision-making.
Blaine shared Pat Cronin’s story and spoke with students about the devastating consequences of social violence, the choices we can make when situations begin to escalate, and the importance of looking out for ourselves and others.
Blaine’s personal connection to Pat, having attended the same school and been in the same year level, made the message particularly meaningful for our students.
It was a valuable session that reinforced an important message: violence is NEVER OK.
Choose respect. Choose kindness. Choose to walk away. 🤝
🍪💙 Spreading Smiles, One Cookie at a Time!
Students from Compassionate Kitchen spread kindness throughout our school community by looking after all the dads in celebration of Father’s Day.
Our students made delicious chocolate chip cookies, designed their own gift cards, packaged the gifts and delivered them to dads across the school. They excelled at making sure each cookie was a consistent shape and size and baked them until they were perfectly golden brown. This was another new skill mastered by our students and one that brought plenty of smiles to our staff!
But our students weren’t just experts at baking treats for humans! The class also made bone-shaped cookies for our Pawsies. Daisy loved hers so much that she decided to hide it from any potential predators by folding the rug over her treat! 🐾🍪
🦎🐍 A Wild Day of Discovery!
We loved welcoming students and staff from Menzies Creek Primary School to Lilydale High School and our Zoology Centre for a special Science Week experience!
There was plenty of excitement and curiosity as students explored the centre, discovered more about our incredible animals and enjoyed hands-on experiences.
Our Junior Zoo Keepers also did a fantastic job sharing their knowledge and helping make the visit a memorable day of learning and discovery. 🐍🐸🐢🐊
⚽ Year 7 Boys Kick Goals!
On 12 August, our Year 7 Boys Soccer team headed to Keith Hume Fraser Reserve and came away with a fantastic win!
The boys showed great sportsmanship, respect and skill throughout the day, making it a terrific team effort.
A huge thank you to Will Milton, Jack Maaskant, Jasper Barry and Riley Scott (Year 12 Sport & Recreation), who helped with the coaching and were awesome on the day!

☕🍰 LHS Café
Our Year 9 Community Time Café has been a popular addition to lunchtime, with students showcasing their creativity, teamwork and hospitality skills across two successful Café sessions.
On Thursday 20 August, students served up milkshakes, chocolate brownies, fairy floss, mini pizzas and hot drinks, with plenty of happy customers enjoying the lunchtime treats.
The Café returned on Thursday 3 September with another tempting menu featuring pigs in a blanket, banana bread, chocolate honeycomb slice, ice cream sandwiches, fresh popcorn and a range of hot and cold drinks prepared by our student baristas.
The clear favourite was the M&M Cookie Dough Slice, which SOLD OUT! 🎉
A huge congratulations to our Year 9 students for their teamwork, creativity and enthusiasm throughout the term. 🌟
