VM COMMUNITY PROJECTS
🎲 Bingo, Community & Connections!
On Monday 10 August, our VCE VM Personal Development Skills students visited Bolton Clarke Aged Care in Lilydale to complete their Community Engagement assessment.
Stepping outside their comfort zones, students ran a bingo session for the residents, with a special shout-out to Raine, Grayah, Ethan and Billy, who bravely took on the role of bingo callers!
The rest of the class paired up with residents, assisting with the numbers while enjoying conversations and making connections.
It was wonderful to see our students demonstrate confidence, respect and kindness while putting their learning into practice.
Well done to all our students for representing Lilydale High School so positively!

🌱 Making a Difference in Our Community
Throughout Term 3, Year 12 VM students developed their understanding of how individuals can make a positive contribution to their local community through a range of meaningful community projects and activities.
The VM Community Project began with a visit to Melbourne Zoo, where students explored how conservation efforts connect with communities and the actions people take every day. They then worked alongside Yarra Ranges Council to remove weeds along the Warburton Trail, learning about native flora and fauna, biodiversity, and the importance of local ecosystems for both the environment and the community.
Building on these experiences, students spent the term planning and delivering their own community projects. Projects included school clean-ups, upgrading bins around the school, and planting trees donated by local community groups and council. Other groups focused on cost-of-living challenges by running a breakfast club and organising food and clothing drives, while others raised awareness of health and wellbeing, with a particular focus on mental health.
Through these projects, students developed practical skills while demonstrating initiative, teamwork and a strong commitment to making a positive difference in their community.

🌱 Growing Connections with Our Community
On 28 August, our Year 11 VM students visited the Civic Centre in Lilydale for an excursion with Yarra Ranges Council as part of their Community unit.
Students learnt about the role of local council, how they can get involved in local projects and initiatives, and the ways council supports young people. They also had the opportunity to tour the Civic Centre facilities and learn more about the work carried out in their local community.
The students then put their learning into action, planting 150 Australian native plants as part of a revegetation project behind the Civic Centre. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to contribute to their local environment while developing a stronger understanding of community involvement.
