Foundation News

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful and restful break! We were so excited to welcome our students back for their final term of Foundation. We can hardly believe how quickly the year has flown by! It was lovely to hear all about everyone's holiday adventures and see so many smiling faces back in the classroom.
This week in Literacy, we have been busy sharing our holiday adventures and putting our wonderful writing skills into action! Students planned and wrote recounts about the places they visited, the things they saw and the fun they did over the holidays. We are so proud of the growing independence of our young writers as they confidently use tricky words, sound out unfamiliar words and remember capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. It has been wonderful to see just how far their writing has come!
In Mathematics, we kicked off our new unit on division by exploring the concept of sharing equally. We read the story When The Doorbell Rang and discussed how sharing is something we encounter in our everyday lives. Students then put their learning into action through hands-on activities, using counters and patty pans to share collections into equal groups and discover how many each person receives.
We have also been getting creative as we begin preparing our special class artwork for the upcoming Art Show! Our Foundation artists have been busy bringing their ideas to life, and we are very excited to see our collaborative masterpiece come together. We won't give too much away just yet, but we can't wait to share their creativity with you!
To top off a wonderful first week back, we enjoyed a lovely visit to the library on Friday. Students spent time exploring and borrowing books, enjoying some quiet reading time and listening to wonderful stories read by Mrs Wenckowski. We also made the most of the beautiful sunshine, celebrating the return of warmer weather, summer uniforms and delicious icy poles!
This week we will be learning about…
- Numeracy- Sharing (Division)
- Reading- revising the sounds and skills learnt throughout the Initalit program and exploring characters, settings and story structure of narratives.
- Writing- adding detail to our sentences using colourful semantics.
- Inquiry- What makes our community special?
- Religion- The Rosary (Month of Mary)
- The Resilience Project- celebrating what makes us unique
Have a wonderful week!
