STEM Update

STEM MAD: Making a Difference Through Innovation!
Our Year 5/6 students have been working incredibly hard on their STEM MAD (Making A Difference) prototypes, developing innovative inventions designed to make a positive difference to the environment or improve someone's life.
Throughout Term 3, students have worked collaboratively, using their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to bring their ideas to life. They have followed the Design Process — designing, creating, testing and refining their prototypes before sharing their projects with their teachers.
It has been wonderful to see our students identify real-world problems and develop thoughtful solutions that could make a difference in our community and beyond. From environmental sustainability to helping people in their everyday lives, our young innovators have shown great enthusiasm, determination and creativity!
The next exciting step is that four groups will be selected to represent St Fidelis Catholic Primary School at this year's STEM MAD Showcase, hosted by St Fidelis on Thursday 22 October 2026.
But that's not the end of the journey for our other innovators! The groups not selected for the STEM MAD Showcase will still have the opportunity to share their amazing prototypes with our school community at the St Fidelis Visual Art and STEM Expo on Thursday 12 November 2026.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our Year 5/6 students have demonstrated throughout this project. They are learning that STEM is not just about building and creating — it is about using knowledge, imagination and innovation to make the world a better place!
We look forward to celebrating all our young innovators and their fantastic ideas at these upcoming events!
St Fidelis Visual Art & STEM Expo 2026
We are excited to announce that the St Fidelis Catholic Primary School Visual Art & STEM Expo is happening on Thursday 12 November 2026!
This year, we are transforming our whole school into a gallery of creativity, innovation and learning!
Families will have the opportunity to explore our school and discover an amazing collection of student artworks, STEM projects, inventions and prototypes. Students will also celebrate their learning by showcasing their incredible work throughout their classrooms, giving everyone a chance to see the wonderful things happening across our school.
A Special Artwork from Every Class
As part of the Expo, each class will design and create a special collaborative artwork representing their classroom and the students who learn in it.
These unique artworks will be available through a silent auction during the Expo, giving families an opportunity to take home a very special piece of St Fidelis history while supporting our school community.
Calling All Creative Families!
We know that we have many talented and creative family members within our St Fidelis community. This year, we would love to celebrate your creativity too!
If you are a parent, grandparent, carer or family member who creates artwork and would like to display one of your artworks at the Expo, we would love to hear from you.
If you are interested in participating, please email Joe Frazzetto at joef@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au.
