Year 2 News

Welcome back, 2NA & SH families! It was so lovely to see the students return to school this week, ready for another exciting term of learning and growing together. We have loved hearing all about their holiday adventures, special moments and the things they got up to during the break. We are looking forward to a wonderful Term 4 filled with lots of learning, laughter and new experiences!
As people of a faith, we came together to pray the Rosary as part of the One Million Children Praying the Rosary initiative. Each day, we prayed one decade of the Rosary together, taking time to reflect and pray as a class. Some students also brought in their own Rosary Beads from home and enjoyed using them as we prayed together.
As readers, we have started reading The Stone Lion and, over the next two weeks, we will unpack its narrative structure, explore interesting vocabulary and engage in a range of comprehension strategies. We will make predictions, ask questions, make connections, visualise and infer as we develop a deeper understanding of the characters, events and messages within the story.
As mathematicians, we began our learning about shape by revisiting our prior knowledge of two-dimensional shapes. We explored the features of different shapes, including their sides and vertices, and discussed how shapes can be similar or different. We also began learning about parallel lines and identifying them within two-dimensional shapes. We will continue developing our understanding of shapes by identifying, sorting and classifying them based on their features.
As inquirers, we continued with our design process and engaged in the Build/Make and Improve stages. We used a variety of materials to create our new aquatic creatures, thinking carefully about how their features would help them survive in their environment. We were brilliant collaborators as we practised sharing ideas, taking on different roles, listening to one another and working together to solve problems and improve our designs.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Shape
- Literacy: Narratives
- Spelling: The graph /u/ making the sound “u” as in bus
- Inquiry: The Design Process
- Religion: Mary
- TRP: Emotional literacy
We are looking forward to an exciting Term 4!
