Italian Update

Bentornati a tutti! (Welcome back everyone!)
Mamma Mia! how this year has flown…can you believe that it is Term 4 already! Hope you all had a lovely holiday break and are now ready for some more exciting learning in italiano as well as reading about Italian community news.
(What are we learning about this term in Italian?)
Foundation: Students will learn the names of Le Forme (shapes), Text: La Gallinella Rossa, (The Little Red Hen), including the introduction to Gli animali della fattoria, (farm animals) and finishing off the term with Natale (Christmas) activities.
Grade 2: Students will be introduced to the text: La Macchinetta Rossa, (The Little Red Car), this will then become a springboard to introduce I Mezzi di Trasporto, (modes of transport) and then finish off with Natale activities.
Grades 3 & 4: Students will be introduced to the text: Guarda! Guarda! Faccia di Patata! The children will study an Italian artist named Giuseppe Arcimboldo, then create some Arcimboldo inspired artworks themselves. The children will also revise names of various frutta e verdura, (fruit and vegetables), throughout the term, including likes and dislikes.
Grades 5/6: L’Impero Romano, (The Roman Empire). Here the students will continue learning about this vast and interesting topic, including learning about Roman numerals and Roman Gods, as well as researching, invenzioni e monumenti dell’antica Roma, (Ancient Roman inventions and monuments).
Speaking of the Roman Empire…during the school holidays, I went to visit the Rome exhibition currently at the Melbourne Museum, entitled: Rome - Empire, Power, People. It was an amazing experience seeing some real Roman artefacts from Italy-some that are over 2000 years old and mostly on loan from the Rome and Florence museums. Not wanting to give too much away but once you’re inside the exhibition, you’ll get to experience what life was like during the Ancient Rome era. If you have not seen this exhibition yet, (and I know that a few of the grade 5/6 children already have), I would highly recommend it for all the genitori (parents), the senior children and perhaps even grade 4’s, or anyone who simply enjoys learning about history in this case Italian history. This is on until domenica 25 ottobre 2026. 🏟️
Another Italian event that is coming up soon, actually this coming weekend, (sabato 17 e domenica 18 ottobre), is the Italian Festa (IF) and Expo. It will take place in and around the Royal Exhibition Building, including the Museum Plaza, in Carlton. It is a festa where all things Italian is celebrated, from cibo, (food), musica (music), danza (dancing), giochi, (games) and arte (arts and crafts), to many other Italian inspired stalls and displays. If you are planning to do something with your famiglia (family), this coming weekend, why not include this on your list…I know I will be going, I may even see some of you there, if so, don’t forget to say CIAO! 😃
I hope you have enjoyed reading this week’s Italian news updates. Until next time…buona settimana a tutti! (Have a good week everyone). 😀
Cordiali saluti
Signora Rosa 🌹
