Student Wellbeing

Welcome back to Term 4! It has been wonderful to see our students return and reconnect with their friends, teachers and school community.
As we begin the term, we are continuing to focus on connection, belonging, student voice and creating opportunities for our students to feel known, valued and supported. We are looking forward to another term of learning, growing and celebrating the many ways our students contribute to our school community.
Playground Helpers Have Begun
Our Playground Helper Program has officially begun!
We are incredibly proud that this initiative has come directly from student voice and agency. Our students identified a need in the playground and shared their ideas about how they could help create a kinder, more inclusive and enjoyable environment for everyone.
Our Playground Helpers are there to support younger students with minor playground challenges such as joining games, turn-taking, misunderstandings and disagreements. Through the program, they are developing important skills in leadership, communication, empathy and problem-solving, while making a positive contribution to our school community.
It is wonderful to see our students taking an active role in shaping the wellbeing of our school.
Bike-tober: Ride & Stride Challenge
Bike-tober is back! In Merri-bek, our streets belong to everyone who walks, rides, plays and drives. Bike-tober encourages our students and families to choose active and sustainable ways to travel to and from school, whether that is by bike, scooter or on foot.
Last year, St Fidelis won a prize thanks to our effort and community spirit, and we were lucky enough to celebrate with our very own Bicycle Icycle! It was fantastic to see so many of our families getting involved and choosing active ways to travel to school.
This year, let's keep the momentum going! We encourage everyone to get involved where they can, walk, ride or scoot to school, and help us make active travel part of our everyday routine. Let's see if we can do it again!
Looking Ahead: GEM Day
We are excited to begin preparing for our GEM Day on Friday 6 November!
This will be a special opportunity for our whole school community to come together and explore the pillars of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, alongside our focus on emotional literacy.
Families will be invited to join us for:
- GEM learning experiences within classrooms
- A special GEM Assembly
Students will also participate in workshops exploring our GEM pillars further and have opportunities to learn more about how we build wellbeing skills at school and at home.
Our GEM Leaders will play an important role throughout the day, helping to lead activities and share their learning with our community.
We look forward to sharing more information with families as we get closer to the day.
Friday Shout Out
Last week's Shout Out went to Florence 5/6NT for always being kind and inclusive, and Archie 2NA for being a very kind friend, helping others, and being a good sportsman.
It is wonderful to celebrate the everyday acts of kindness, empathy, effort and leadership that help make our school community such a positive place to be.
