Religion
So far this term, the students have been learning about prayer and caring for others throughout our Religion lessons. We have made our own personal decade of the Rosary, learnt the prayers of the Rosary, and been introduced to the parable of the Good Samaritan. Through these experiences, students have explored how prayer can strengthen our relationship with God and how Jesus teaches us to show kindness, compassion and care to those around us. We will continue to unpack the messages of the Good Samaritan and discuss what it means to live a good Christian life by helping and caring for others each day.
Here are some examples of the decades of the Rosary we created.
English
This term, we have enjoyed reading The Stone Lion and The Snail and the Whale, using these texts to build our comprehension and language skills. We explored the features of narratives, including characters, settings and rhyming words, and discussed how these elements help make stories engaging.
As part of our Advent letter exchange, students practised their letter-writing skills by creating thoughtful letters to share with others.
Next, we will use a range of texts to explore the features of persuasive writing, focusing on persuasive letters and how authors use reasons and persuasive language to influence their audience. We will also be continuing to develop our handwriting skills. Practising correct letter formation using lower-case and upper-case letters.
Here are some of our origami whales we created linked to the text, The Snail and the Whale.
Maths
This term, students have been investigating the features of 2D and 3D shapes. They explored and described shapes using mathematical vocabulary such as faces, vertices, edges, sides, parallel lines, and corners. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students developed their understanding of how shapes can be identified, compared, and classified.
Next, we will begin learning about location and movement, using directional language to describe positions and pathways, as well as exploring patterns and identifying, creating, and extending repeating sequences.
Science
This term, we had a fantastic excursion to the aquarium, where students enjoyed seeing a variety of marine habitats in action and learning about the animals that live within them.
Back in the classroom, we have been exploring the eight planets in our solar system and discovering some of their unique features. Next, we will be investigating the phases of the Moon and developing our understanding of how it changes and the names of the different phases.
